I scored in the top 10 percentile in the AM section.
this test was horrible last year. I was pissed I wasted my time taking the AM (PM section is fine to run through). so many errors. You have enough old CFAI mocks on hand. I recommend using the CFAI AM and w/ the Boston PM.
Good exam for the most part. There were 8 questions and I think 6 of the questions were very good. Two questions were way out of wack…
The FI section was no bueno. It felt like old material rather than updated FI section. They asked an obnoxious question to calculate portfolio modified duration and annualized dispersion… and gave 3 bonds with par values, maturities and coupons… ya right, I dont remember that specific calculation! (For only 8 points… No way is that testable for 8 points on exam day)
It didnt give typical “circle the correct choice” and justify… Instead, for example, it would ask the bias and justify. Typical exams would list 6 biases and you circle one and then justify.
So minor issues, for the most part I though the exam was good. Was it worth $150? Probably not, but it depends… Have you done Konvexity, MM, and CFAI papers and looking for more practice? If not, then head to the affordable exams.
I would rate this one similar to Konvexity and MM for the most part. However, Konvexity you get 3 exams and MM you get 4 exams for less cost of a single boston!
If all you had was the CFAI mocks and 20 years of past AMs, what would you choose to supplement with? Based on what you’ve taken so far & considering cost
I have done pretty much every CFAI paper, Konvexity, Schweser, IFT, MM, Boston, and Finquiz. Based on best Value:
CFAI (the best and free)
MM (4 sets) Tied with Konvexity (3 sets) – I got a 50% off Konvexity
Schweser - 6 sets – came with my package
Finquiz - 6 sets and an additional 5 AM papers, so its 11 AMs and 6 PMs (had like a 90% off – so costed about $90)
Boston - 1 set - by far the most expensive
IFT - 3 sets (questions are practically old CFAI questions with maybe some numbers changed… deja vu!). I also got the IFT completion portfolio (questions to replace with irrelvent CFAI questions… this was junk… just other CFAI questions reworded again.)
Wow, nice work man. I felt like you were in the top 2-3 most prepared AF’ers last year and it looks like you’re treating #3 no differently. Keeping the competition tough. Are you just coasting for the next month?
No coasting but I am definitely taking it easier than Level 2… I was doing one full mock per day from May onward in level 2… This time, only doing half a session a day.

If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career.
