it’s more complicated than that. On an individual level, soft majors such as gender studies, art history or greek philosophy are a waste of time and a sure fire way of wasting 4 years of your life. But as a society, we still need people who study this kind of stuff. A society doesn’t progress if everyone just studies ”real” stuff like accounting or engineering

honestly if I had son who was doing tuba for school, I wouldn’t care how elite the school. I would tell him how much of a disappointment he is for being lame af. Of course if he becomes rich and successful with a lot of women I approve of. I would tell him how wrong I was.

Happiness is one thing money can’t buy. It is a state of mind. If he is happy and can be bankrolled by parents/grandparents, let him do what he wants. I would, if i knew i can bankroll my kids for them never to worry about supporting themselves
