Why not both? Cobra Commander wanted to advertise by etching the Cobra insignia on the moon. As Destro says, "You spent millions on this?! – this cosmic grahitti?!”
The money is there, all you need is the right ad team.

^hook…line…and sinkkkkkkerrr
I was thinking about this yesterday as YouTube has increased ad lengths from seconds to MINUTES on occasion.
Then, I go to put gas in my car and a video with sound comes on telling me to go eat at some burger place. It activated when I started pumping gas.
Made me think of Minority Report when he’s walking around and targeted ads are hitting him. Even NYC cabs have those obnoxious video ads.
I pay $5/mo for ad free pandora. It’s worth it.
Can’t locate the article right now, but a couple months ago I read that children are being exposed to 70% fewer ads than we did when we were young. Between the DVR and Netflix, kids just don’t sit down and watch live TV anymore.
I don’t recall the article saying anything about the addition of online advertising though.
I think kids get a lot of ads on their iPhone apps/games. I get a redic amount of ads for playing 1 move now on words with friends. They are really dumb ads, I’m not the target audience at all.
Awesome topic, yeah it’s out of control.
It goes back to the problem of the corporation; just maximize profit, it doesn’t actually care about any benefit to humanity, and “vote with your wallet” is powerless (since they ALL do it, you have no options). Bloomberg.com started adding their auto-play video to every single screen, which is the most annoying thing. FB is an absolute mess (and they are lying about their ad views and effectiveness). Even paid things, like a movie, have 40 minutes of ads. The web is a trash can, almost all sites are 70% ads by surface area, and a small column in the middle called “content”, which is really just some corporate brainwashing.
I posted on social media “they should probably just delete the internet, at this point” and was shocked how many people clicked like.
To bash FB specifically…
Bubble and fraud. If you have a business you are promoting, they have these things “boost your post”, which shows up in people’s feed. But as we all know, our eyes just ignore that stuff. To combat this they have a bunch of guys in India and the Philippines clicking like on your stuff, so it appears your ad actually did something. Of course, having a hundred likes from people with Indian names is pretty weird looking. There’s plenty of analysis on the internet on this topic. And with auto video, when it says “1000 views”, it means like 10. Almost nobody would have clicked on it, they just scrolled past and it counted.
Now I haven’t analyzed all this in detail, but I think I can safely say it’s a bigtime scam, and eventually the market (you would think) would realize that? But now I guess they have diversified into manipulating elections. Freakin’ Zuck. Gawd those guys suck.
me love fb longtime
