^ re: Lord Byron, I agree that this record will never be eclipsed. However, it isn’t required that the player play 11 consecutive weeks, it is only that the player wins the 11 consecutive events that player enters. Of course it could be 11 consecutive weeks, or it could be over the course of an entire season, or over multiple seasons. I know Tiger has got it to 6 in a row twice before, and everyone knows he can only go 2 or 3 consecutive tourneys before he needs a 5 week hiatus.

I think you have a point about the fundamental shifts in sports, to a certain extent. As you point out, most teams have gone to 2 RB systems, EXCEPT those teams with top tier RBs (read: Chris Johnson, MJD, Adrian Peterson). In fact, those three RBs that I mentioned are all 25 years old, and have 4,371, 5,202, and 5,633 rushing yards in their careers, respectively. Granted, a long way from Emmitt’s record, but I certainly don’t think it’s unreachable.
10 years ago, close to 70% of offensive plays in the NFL were rushing plays. Today, it is the exact opposite: 70% passing. Trends change through time. If we had a discussion about quarterbacks a decade ago, we would have said no way Marino’s records of most TD in a season and yards would be broken. The former was broken and the latter is certainly reachable (in fact, Brees was 15 yds away 2 years ago).

Great points made here, which I think goes back to what I said about no record being safe in the long-run. There are such fundamental shifts in sports over time (for example, who’s to say that 10 years from now we won’t revert back to the 70% rushing/30% passing offenses of the past?) that can alter the game so much and make it easier for someone to achieve a metric believed to be unreachable now.

I’m a big Favre fan, but all time career in the playoffs: Manning 9-9, 87.6 rating, 1 SB win Favre 13-11, 86.3 rating, 1 SB win, and one gawd awful interception last year. and in case you’re wondering: Brady 14-4, 85.5 rating, 3 SB wins.

What about Favre’s INT in the NFC championship game 3 years ago in OT vs NYG?

I can’t stand Eli though and still think it was one of the worst trades in franchise history. Imagine if the Giants had Philip Rivers and the draft picks instead of Eli.
^ yeah, I don’t think Eli deserves much credit for that one Pats loss. That NYG def was pretty impressive that year, and that’s how they won the SB. Eli is decent, but doesn’t belong in the same conversation as his brother, Brady or about 10 other QB’s in the league.
Will Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 100 points in a game be beaten? My guess is no in the next 50 years.

I agree, I do think Rivers is the better QB and Eli is pretty mediocre - BUT and this is always the case with Eli, he had a great run that season (he played incredible) and he won the SB…that will forever be his redemption card (and probably Coughlin’s too).
Brett Favre is soft
^ evidently that’s what his texts revealed to Ms. Sterger

He does have that and I did agree to sell my soul to the devil if Eli could lead the Giants down the field to victory on the final drive.
