And if anything, it is not subtle - look at the Jeremy Whitlock quote. It is not subtle (that’s an understatement.) I also don’t think it’s racist (implying hate, as you mentioned.)
It’s based on stereotypes of which there is a plethora in American humor and most of them are conventional to the point of being not funny anymore. Like Asians’ length, British lack of dental hygiene (Jay Leno exploited this to the nth degree), German love of order, French rudeness, Indian accent and so on.
