Captain Phillips

Tom Hanks best movies: Big, Forest Gump… end of list

^ How about Saving Private Ryan?

Not a big fan of this movie: too bloody and violent.

Personally, ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ is a good movie. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks both performed well! And they were both young!

No love for Cast away? It takes skill to win an oscar when you have a volleyball as a co star.

I never watch a movie twice. The time I spent watching a movie for a second time could have been spent watching a new movie.

Saw Captain phillips yesterday end enjoyed it. I wasn’t aware of his story beforehand.

Here’s an article of what really happened vs the movie:

I don’t think it’s entirely unreasonable to throw a little bit of sympathy the pirates way. How would YOU like to be born into a ****hole like Somalia? I believe strongly in the power of environment to shape a person’s life, and if most of us were born into that mess, many might have followed the same paths.

I know others who feel that way, so I get it. For Gravity, I saw it once in 3d and then saw it again in Imax 3d. So part of the reason was to catch it in the best format possible. It’s pretty rare that I see a movie in the theater twice.

However, I am more than willing to watch movies more than once more generally. I prefer to see the movie will I expect will give me the most enjoyment. If I haven’t seen a movie and it has been reviewed poorly, I’m less likely to want to see it. Conversely, if I haven’t seen a movie and it has been reviewed well, then there will be a greater chance I will like it, which reduces the uncertainty and gives me a greater incentive to see the film. This is particularly the case for older and foreign films. However, such films might have slower pacing or subtitles that I might not want to bother with at a given moment. Thus, if I know a movie is amazing, that might be the best use of my time, especially if I want to share that amazing-ness with someone else. Alternately, watching a movie more than once can help me appreciate it more.

I watched Captain Phillips yesterday! smiley

It was a good movie and Tom Hanks and the Pirates (especially the main Pirate Muse) act well!

But I have a question:

What was Captain Phillips yelling to the US negotiator and the secure team? I heard something related to the seat! Was he trying to tell them where he was sitting at exactly? The US ppl wrote the information on the board. Lol I just couldn’t hear well and didn’t catch what was written on the board.

Yes, either being a fisherman or a pirate, that’s how they would survive.

I do feel sorry for the underage boy. I don’t think he is evil.

I believe they got those Somalis off the streets of Minnesota. Probably my favorite movie this year.

Wolves of Wall Street might change my mind later this year.
