Good. I always thought that guy was an idiot. I got tired of visiting the watercooler and seeing post after post of his garbage.
He used the word fag several times without getting banned and was probably the most racist person here, but oh yeah, he’s black and can’t be racist, right? Couldn’t take even the slightest bit of criticism or even disagreement. Total keyboard warrior living in a shitty apartment with his mom.
I think iheartmath was a girl that JTLD didn’t breathe evenly to. Right around that time he got banned yet again so he took on IheartIheartMath. I can’t remember who he was before JTLD but you are right, he was banned multiple times and came back unscathed. Nothing stops CVM to do the same.
Post any content that is abusive, obscene, hateful, vulgar, fraudulent, threatening, harassing, defamatory, or which discloses private or personal matters concerning any person;
His comment seems hateful towards women. I’m a guy, and he is trying to insult me by calling me a girl…he is implying they are inferior to men. Ban Thommo for his sexism.
I’ve been on this crusade for years. Chad simply doesn’t understand how a voting system would benefit this site. Itera has no idea what he’s talking about, comparing AF to Reddit doesn’t make the slightest bit of sense. That doesn’t mean certain features that have been proven to work well on sites like Reddit couldn’t work here. They would. A simple voting system would solve 99% of our problems. It’s perplexing to me that essentially all the mods (though I think bchad may be coming around) and admin are against a voting system (so is FT…wtf dude?).
Again, I’m calling out Chad. The mods are in way over their heads and it’s admin’s fault for not deploying the necessary tools to make this site more functional and user friendly. I could (and have) named at least a half dozen other (non-votingn related) simple measures that could be implemented, but all I get in the way of a response is, “wait until AF 3.0.”
^ The garbage some posters spew here is exactly like what people do on Reddit.
and FYI, none of the mods here have any control over development or addition of any new functions. We work with what we have. There is nothing we can do.
people spew garbage everywhere, this is the internet. the reason reddit was mentioned was that the functionality can offer benefits to AF. we now understand that this is unfortunately out of your control.
You’re completely missing the point and I don’t think you have any idea what you’re talking about. Garbage posts on Reddit get downvoted. After five downvotes the comments are hidden but still viewable by clicking on them.
What you consider to be garbage may be where we differ, but the entire point is it shouldn’t be up to you or me to decide. Let the community vote on what posts are useful (especially helpful in every other forum outside of the WC) and what posts are interesting, funny, spam, trolling, etc. here.
And I know you don’t control policy. To my point above, it’s extremely clear that no one controls policy around here.
What difference would it make? Like I said in the other thread, it’s obvious there’s no way to stop people from making dup accounts. I’d be back in an hour.
It is understandable that technology enhancements take some time to implement. However, it should not be too much to ask for existing infrastructure to be made functional. For instance, the Copy/Paste function on Internet Explorer is still broken: switching browsers is not an option for people in some environments. Image resize has never worked. Ban policy would not be as big of an issue if legitimate posts diluted the bad posts. However, at the moment, it is extremely difficult to make actually useful posts here.
For the record (and I probably speak for many others), I didn’t see these posts. This means that the mods are doing their job.
It sounds like it was a unanimous decision, and that it was actually long overdue. I don’t have a problem with the ban, in and of itself.
However, I do think that this is a sign of the times, and that AF (Water Cooler) is just not as much fun as it used to be. At the risk of sounding like a bigot, a lot of this can be attributed to foreign nationals who keep posting nonsensical crap all the time. How much of the stupidity is intentional and how much is sheer ignorance, I don’t know. But I do think that if somebody contributes absolutely nothing of value, then they should be banned.
BChad has said that you can’t ban somebody for just being a nuisance. But maybe it’s time to start banning the annoying nuisances. Maybe a Constitutional Amendment is in order.
Since the trolls have enough free time on their hands to troll the forum to begin with… it’s likely that they’ll have enough free time to find a proxy server to hide their real IP.
IP ban would be a good start though. I have a feeling most of these spammers (and really that’s what they are, not so much trolls) wouldn’t have the motivation to change their IP address.
Another way that could help (suggestion #76), would be to go back to the times when AF required a work email address to register. Once a person is banned, their email address would get blacklisted. Right now, I could set up a dozen gmail accounts and spam the CFA boards all day long.
(Come to think about it, maybe that’s the best way to force change around here. Admin doesn’t seem to care about the WC…I wonder what would happen if the CFA boards became completely disfunctional? Just a thought…)
For as much as everyone claims to hate trolls… everytime a potential one pops up everyone swoops with “mods asleep at the weel”… continued by cock fights over who can can genrerate the most sarcasm over this stupid pointless troll trash. (not that i’m complaining… you guys are funny as hell!)
Anyway… there is probably is a direct relationship between troll occurence and site traffic. I’m suspect ad revenue may be one reason trolls are permitted to stick around. Your words say you hate trolls, but the added site traffic says YOU LOVE THEM!
