Got a final interview for the Corporate Credit Product division within CIBCWM. The role sits on the trading floor and is a front office role mixed with MO risk. I’ll be on-boarding and analysing Funds, Fund managers and structuring Credit facilities for FX, IRS, and Securities Lending…
Anyone know anything about this? Anyone got opinions on CIBCWM?
When you say never got a call back, do you mean they never even called back to tell you you were rejected?
This has recently happened to me with a bank, and I am considering calling them and kind of letting them have it. Its just bad form after I took the time to apply and come in and interview and then they dont even get back to you to say they arent proceeding.
And the funny thing is that the second time I interviewed with them (a few years after the 1st), HR asked me if I ever interviewed with them before. I said yes, just 2 years ago for position X. I was then asked how did it go and I answered I never received any answer. They looked shocked and assured me that that’s not how they handle candidates. They apologized for whoever interviewed me. Well…they ended up pulling the same stunt.
2 months ago I interviewed with a hiring manager at a big welath management firm. He was going to interview 6 candidates and I was #2 on the list. He promised me he would let me know if I got the job or not. His words: “I will call every single candidate that steps into my office out of respect. I meet with hundreds of clients a year. Respect is important to me because the candidate you reject today can be the client you meet tomorrow”.
I never heard from him again. I don’t mind not being contacted to know I got rejected, but if someone promises me to get back to me, I expect him to keep his word.
Haha, totally know how you feel. This happened to me last year when I was looking for post-MBA jobs last year. One hedge fund I interviewed with went so-so – I was as prepared as I could have been, but didn’t get that “warm and fuzzy” feeling. The lady I talked (mid-40’s and single, I believe) to seemed a bit dictatorial. Anyway, she told me she’d be in touch but I never heard back from her after a few weeks, and ended up taking an offer elsewhere.
Then, recently, she added me on LinkedIn. I wasn’t sure if that was her plan or if LinkedIn just went through her “recent contacts” and added everyone on her list. Seeing this as an opportunity to be cheeky, I wrote back to her and the following dialogue ensued:
Numi: “Hi, have we met before?”
Lady: “Yes, we spoke about opportunities at this fund last year.”
Yeah, people don’t like to call with rejections. I guess it is just awkward. Imagine if you broke up with 10 girls on the same day, and had to tell each of them “It is not you. It’s me”. So you just end up avoiding them.
