How did you realize your “passion” is in finance? There is no passion in finance by definition. I would stay in IT…you already committed 10 years…you’re just bored and in 10 years in finance you will get bored of that too. Make money, retire, and go pursue an actual passion, not another career.

For me passion is when you are doing things and you feel you still want and excited to do it again and again. You feel connected with how the financial statement of the company and you know how derivative and fixed income work. I started my career in IT is because I have no choice at the moment is not because I wanted to do it. Not everybody is lucky to be able to choose what career or job they want to do because of some situation. And you should differentiate between passion for career and passion for leisure. If everybody can retire without working, of course who doesn’t want it? I think you just don’t get the meaning of my questions.

Serious question - why is everyone from India in IT?

My passion is in art and music, classicals mucis that is. As for art I am into contemporary. Nothing better than a Saturday morning breakfast at home with my wife and a stroll to MOMA for few hours. I also listen to classical everyday and I really enjoy it. I look forward to hearing and learning to play the piano. My passion is in art.

btw I bet sales directors at any one of those Chelsea galleries make really good money off of commissions. Anyone know much?

Not sure if it is just your English or if that is what you really meant but that sentence sounds like you are somehow connected spiritually which, let’s be honest, is total BS. The kind of people who are attracted to finance are people who are extrinsically motivated by money. I do believe that people with passion who are intrinsically motivated are in fields such as science. They want to better understand the universe or find a cure for cancer.

If you want to be passionate about something, find a hobby.
