How far away are you from the candidates on the front left or right? I do not think it is even possible to glance the answer sheets at all. Maybe it will if it is your immediate left or right but at the front?? It is really quite far won’t you think definitely nothing you can look at more so with the high failing rate. I will be more happy to take a calculative guess than to glance at anyone at all.

That’s great… That was what i was worried about. A proctor can lie and nothing will happen to him at all. How can a person without any substantial experience have the authority to judge what “giving the appearance” is ?
the distance was more than 5 feet but the proctor writes in the report as 2 feet
The seats row on my left was at a 3-4 ft distance and the proctor’s report says just that. The row on my right was barely 0.5 ft away. The proctor doesn’t say anything about this. I apparently was too busy trying to copy off a guy whose paper was most likely impossible to read for me, instead of looking at the one who was so close I could take his paper from the table just extending my arm. So he is not only calling me a cheater, but also implying I’m just stupid.
@fdez my id is zxcfre@rediffmail.com If you don’t mind can u share you reply with me…if you want you may create another id if you don’t want to disclose your nname
Frankly, this whole issue of cheating-by-copying-answer-sheets makes little sense to me. How could a cheater place any reliance on the answers of another random candidate? The person from whom a candidate is copying could be dumb as a box of hammers or extremely hung over or just plain guessing/bluffing their way through the test. With the pass rates as low as they are, you have a greater chance of copying from a failing candidate than a passing. Also, what if the person to your left checked A, the person to the right C, and you were thinking B? Just stab yourself in the eye with your pencil and be done with it?
ATH you’re right…however, i guess the way the CFAI looks at it is that you may be working in cahoots with another person. Or say you know your friend is much better prepared than you, so even if you copy a few answers off your friend’s paper you still have a chance at a better score than otherwise. Anyway, copying is copying. No point in us trying to define it, irrespective of whether it helps the candidate or not.
^ agree. If you have absolutely no idea on a question, you would have an incentive to cheat as the answer you copy would be at least as well informed as your own guess. I think all this chatter about PCP investigations is great - probably scaring the pants off next year’s L2 candidates
Damn, look at that massive jump in the number of ‘Permanent Suspension/Prohibition from Further Participation in the CFA Program’ cases in 2009. WTF was up with that? Looks like a lot of cautionary letters - ‘you gave the apperance of improprietry. Be careful in the future’. Problem is, of course, that it still assumes your guilt, and I don’t know how on god’s green earth anyone could defend themselves against vague, faceless accusations. Clearly the answer is ‘have better proctors’…

Even if I just get a cautionary letter I will be quite angry, because that would be assuming I did something wrong when I didn’t. By the way, I sent my response last Saturday. No signs from CFAI so far. I understand it may take some time to thoroughly read and analyze my response and the report from the proctor, but I would appreciate at least an “Ok. We have received your e-mail”.
I served as a proctor this past June. I reported everyone and anyone who looked like they’d pass. I also reported ever AFer I could find. You’re Welcome.
^ u dont belong in AF, u belong in hell! \m/
In response to the OP, Yes, proctors do get paid for reporting cheaters. I make more money proctoring and firing off incident reports than most of the CFA Charterholder community. It’s not a bad racket, I’ll ride it as long as they’ll have me.
I have also known another case where this happened…they will have all these hearings and it is just a kangaroo court…if their case is bad consult your lawyer and sue them for $30,000,000!! That is when they will wake up from their ego dreams and trying to ruin human beings…I guess every year they select a few people to set an example!!
Hi Fdez! I also received such letter so I don’t know how to construct this kind of responses. If you don’t mind could you please share your response with me and I just want to make sure that everything is fine in my letter.
Arial10, you’re trying to be funny right? nearly all your posts are useless, with some slightly funny, and the rest are just freaking weird I’d rather have NYCGorilla come back, his posts were completely useless, but at least they were mostly funny
