Not mandatory in the literal sense but mandatory from a team building perspective to occassionally go out for a beer or two at lunchtime.

I’ve also been told this by people who used to work in London. Strangely, in general in the US, I wouldn’t know. I don’t get to go out for lunch. Boo…
I am russian woman… so ehhh… interesting perspective you have here, guys)))0 lol
No biggie here. We have our team meetings every Friday during lunch and we each have a beer. I keep my intake limited to one though …
Wait, so people can actually get through a day of work NOT drinking? Weird. Seriously, though at my place its pretty situational. If you have things to do, you are probably not going out to lunch. If you have a quiet day or a client thing and you’re going out to lunch, then drink away (although beer or wine is probably a better choice than the long island).
I had 1 beer ever at lunch… and it was right after I found out I passed Level II and I was terrified someone would narc on me to a superior the entire time so I couldn’t enjoy.
id say for young guys its taboo but most senior execs at my firm definitely indulge, probably because they’re just talking heads and never have to do any real work anyway
Do whatever you wanna, problem sovled. Asian women > Russian, obviously c’mon guys.
I find 1/2 Asian women > everything.
I normally have a latte or espresso before an interview, but was wondering if any of you consume alcohol before an interview - nothing too soporific like a scotch, but perhaps something like a gin and tonic to put you at ease. Any thoughts?
I stick to soporifics on saturdays - I usually don’t have anything special before an interview (just the normal doubleshot of espresso in the mornings at my apt)

A very true comment about the London lunch culture, especially on Fridays. Mandatory drinking is going a bit too far though. I was surprised about the Germany comments. When I was on a business trip in Dusseldorf, there were quite a few people drinking beer during lunch time. The same thing goes for French but w/ wine. As far as numi’s question is concerned, I knew a guy who would put a little bit of cognac into his coffee before an interview. He said that it worked fine in his case. I guess it’s a matter of personal preference after all. Just don’t abuse it, that’s all.
Bad thing with coffee b4 interview is it makes u go to the restrooms.
What about Asian women born in Russia?
