Failed due to where answers were written

you choked get over it!

I’m not sure if theres any reason to ‘stick the knife in’.

I just couldn’t exactly remember but, were there ‘answer on this part of paper will not be graded’ marks in every answer page? And it is true not graded on that part? How about partial writes hanging on there?

There was only one page that had the answers will not be graded mark, in the entire exam. It was on a page that was left half blank with a big bold type saying “answers here won’t be graded”. I know because i looked at every other page after i read that, and none had it. Yes I choked everybody, I apology for questioning the sanctity of the holy CFAI process, please forgive my insolence. Next Year I’ll make sure that I am well prepared and have a firm understanding of the curriculum, which I was clearly lacking this year. Oh, wait…

Mark, I could understand your pain and resulting anger. However let bygone be bygone. Take a break and get back on the horse and sure you will pass next time around. I hope you will not let this incident cloud your brain and affect your performance and outcome next year. More you rant about it there will always be some people who will voice their views which would be at variance with yours and aggravate the pain and anger. Best thing to do is let go and try to be at peace with your self. Good luck and best wishes.

Oh, wait… If you couldn’t follow simple instructions I doubt you would have passed the exam anyway so I wouldn’t be too upset. I still dont know how you would have fit answers under the questions when there was very little room. If you are really upset at the CFA then I suggest you pull out of the course, that will show them.

just wanted to bump this

(1+bump)^(46/360)???

46/365.

I want some clarification from someone wh has taken LIII already …

If the question states “Answer on the template provided”, they provide a page number where the template is, and you must answer in that template.

If there is no template given, you MUST answer on the lined paper they provide, not on the question itslef. Is this correct?

Does anyone know fi the Schweser mocks are in this format too?

Thanks

schweser practice exams from what I’ve seen provide an empty space after the question to answer the same… not the same as the real deal.

You are correct spanish. If you are directed to a template, obviously use it. If you are not directed, answer on the lined pages and not beneath the question itself.

Never thought I’d see this thread again. It’s almost a year later, and this time I will be paying much more attention to directions and the format of the exam. For any first time takers, do yourself a favor and read this thread. I’m sure mark will agree, busting your ass for a year to not have your exam is a helpless feeling. Good luck to all.

Def sucks. I passed that fucker too. Or… “in my opinion I passed”… that way they can’t slam me later.

Bumped for the Level 2 passers… heaps of action after 2011 Level 3 exam.

Best advice for Level 3 exam:

ALWAYS WRITE IN THE FREAKING TEMPLATE OR YOU WILL FAIL!!!

Thank you Spaiydz! All the very best for your results mate!

If question says answer on lined pages -> answer on lined pages

if question says answer in template -> answer in template. You could answer on lined pages BUT this is a waste of time.

Just don’t answer in question booklet.

Bump

No excuses this year, we’ve all been plenty warned about what happens when AM section answers are written anywhere outside the templates or lined paper. There have been claims made in the past of hundreds of L3 candidates give away points for failing to follow directions.

CFAI instructions read:

On the essay section of the Level III exam, you’ll see two types of questions:** One requires that you write your answers on the lined page(s) following the question. For these questions, label each part of your answer clearly (A, B, C, or i, ii, iii, etc.) **The other type asks you to provide your answers in a template following the question. Instructions in bold print immediately precede the question direct you to the page number of each template.
