I was in HK for only three weeks but absolutely loved it. It has a real unique blend of eastern and western cultures. I pretty much agree with everything Willier said about HK. There are plenty of great vacation possibilities. Also, there are tailors in all price ranges if you like clothes. When I was there, I felt like there was a large ex-pat scene but the sevens rugby tourament was going on so it might have been inflated by everyone coming in for that. I think you should at least interview in HK to see what the city is all about. Sometimes you fall in love with cities right away (for me, Sydney and HK) and other times you are completely put off by it (can’t stand Tokyo - it’s trash).

Thats cause u need someone like me to show u the right places to go in Tokyo =P

I guess Goldman made it into AssetMgrWannabe’s “Top Five Investment Firms.” Goldman will be happy to hear the news.

1 thing i have to warn u guys about HK… is that its people are probably the ugliest Chinese you’ll find among Chinese people. HK girls are horrendenous that it made girls in TW or Korea look like angels (maybe other places too, but i haven’t experienced it first hand).

I have lived in HK for three years when I was a kid. (Dad was working there for a Canadian Bank.) I have also lived in Tokyo for a total of 5 years on two seperate occasions. I loved both cities but would agree that for a Westerner, HK is much easier to live in. By the way, I also know a guy (used to work with him in Toronto) and he has moved out to HK with GS. lowish level and he did get a housing allowance to answer your question. The pay is decent but not as good as New York but the costs are not as high as New York either. The only large expense is the housing (which is expense unless you are willing to live local style). Most other stuff is pretty cheap. If you are the adventurous type I would say jump at the chance… China is growing and there will be lots of opportunities to relocate. Take it from a guy who has spent more than half his life as an ex-pat. However, like others mentioned, it is crazy hot there and you will need to wear a suit.
