How hard for a non-native speaker to break into ER?

I have BA in Economics and will have MS Finance in May 2014.My goal is to be an equity research analyst;however I think it is really hard for me as a non-native speaker.I have 3.8 GPA and will have a depth knowledge in Financial Modelling and VBA before graduation. In addition,I have references about successful stock pitching from university endowment fund portfolio managers.Do you think can i break into ER or I have to consider something more quantitative because I am non native speaker?

Thx guys…

sell side ER will be harder for your to break into. Communication and writing skills are one of the keys to success there.

buyside ER is easier, but job oppotunities are fewer

I want to break into buy side but what i get from forums even break into buy side is tough.I think they are writing reports frequently which lowers my chance:( In addition,I figured out that finance job opportunities will shrink 40% in few years.Bad luck!!!

No. Pretty sure that they’ll shrink by 42.7%.

Non native speakers are employed at huge companies such as Amazon and somehow keep their jobs despite the inability to speak english. I would imagine finance is no different. Just mutter ‘ignorant american’ anytime they ask you to repeat your self.

So you have a good shot. Go get it brah!

I will try:)

In a job where being understood and concise is paramount, I would say mastering the language of your boss and clients is pretty important.

I know Turkish and our market is currently one of the emerging market in the world;however I couldn’t find many equity research firms focus on Turkish market.Generally, they take into account the brazilian and asian markets which I don’t know much more about.I am great in politics and economics which I thought very essential for equity research but haven’t found any opportunity yet.

Thanks.
