How long have you guys been unemployed?

Some of us have have been doing a LOT more than what you’re suggesting in terms of networking :stuck_out_tongue: And still nothing yet.

Its another 2 weeks. How have people been doing on the job hunt?

While I’m still unemployed, I’ve noticed a definite uptick in decent job listings and I’ve found myself applying to more (local, and reasonable) places this week than I have in the last couple months. Nothing too exciting, but perhaps it’s a good sign.

I hate to be *that guy*, you know the “I told you so” guy. However as invenstment analysts you need to be monitoring the market. In monitoring the market you should be aware when there is trouble and be OUT of the market and into a safe place BEFORE it blows up.

F-man there is no way you could get me to go into accounting! I just picked a firm that had no correlation with subprime fixed income and one whose assets generally do okay in a recession. Of course it turned out the disaster extended way past subprime fixed income, but hasn’t made it over here, yet. In fact we are still hiring like crazy.

^This is the first time in my life I’ve ever heard subprime mortgages referred to as “subprime fixed income”.

purealpha, so you’re from Seattle if I remember correclty. Do you know a fair amount of people at Vulcan?

anyone hear how Bleron is doing? I have been looking for a few months and I believe it is starting to pick up, but it seems finding opportunities is more word-of-mouth rather than postings. Entrepreneurship is good from a ‘hustler’ sense but the business needs to be capitalized enough to last through until economy does better. And of course the ‘idea’ has to be one which can grow in this market environment. The other most important part of entrepreneurship is to have a solid team of founders that can work closely together and trust one another’s strengths. I’ve found that most people can go the entrepreneur route when they are 2,3, or 4 close friends with common interests but also complementary skills. That way capitalization is shared, network is grown by x, and each can focus on separate areas of the business.

“Entrepreneurship is good from a ‘hustler’ sense” Porn??

meant more from a “hustle and bustle” sense. Going from working in a relatively generic office environment to building a business from the ground up would be a drastic change. The new business would be long hours with tons of unanticipated tasks. Depending on familiarity. This guy’s life changed, although he didn’t exactly build the business from the ground up. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=acDrXoRWtQV4

Haven’t been able to find work for over 6 months, graduated in Dec 08 and got into a 6 month internship at a hedge fund once that ended, I’ve had no luck.

Tough time for new grads. I’d find a rich GF and just hang out drinking lattes and taking exams and such for a couple years.
