Took four weeks off work, first two weeks spent on FRM 1 and FRM 2 (70 hours each), took both FRM exams on the same day (May 18th). Then spent ten days preparing for CFA II, probably spent about 130 hours on it. Exam went well, if I fail it will be Band nine or ten. Reckon another 30-50 hours would have guaranteed a pass. Finished both sessions in approximately 2:20.
Ten year veteran of the City, eight years as quant FX trader so many subjects are rudimentary to me.
Those people who say, “Yeah, I get in a good hour on the bus to work and another on the bus back from work” probably don’t understand what “quality” study really is.
eh, not for me. When looking back on life when I’m old and grey I will not wish I had missed my 2 year olds party and my 5 year olds party or the family outings in favor of study. I had someone pretty smart tell me once that you aren’t going to look back on your life wishing you studied harder. Just study the minimal amount you can to pass the test. Goal is not to devote your life to it and miss 3 years of springtime with your kids.
But if it is that important to you than that’s cool. It isn’t going to change my life all that much so I don’t weight it that high.
I took a review class (8 weeks * 8 hours a day) and cramed the last 1.5 weeks for 12 hours a day. Roughly 200 hours. I think i passed w/ the min passing score.
I put in at least 500 hours last year, failed band 8. Put in at least the same amount of time this year and passed. Remember this is a competitive exam and asume most of your competition will be putting in as much or more study time then you.
