I don’t have benninga, but you can peruse some chapters on Amazon. The book gets 4.5 stars and a lot of folks on AF love it. However it’s financial modeling, not company modeling. (Check out the ToC.) The Midnight Manuals are terse little books that are very pragmatically focused on what IB analysts do when modeling a company; they’re the cliff notes version of the modeling class that AMT provides the street. You can also just dive into Damodaran’s collection of modeling spreadsheets on his web site – once you’ve digested those (for free) you can look for other resources.
Hey Brian, Since Benninga wasn’t apart of the course, and I’m somewhat short of time with work, school & a gf, I didn’t have much time to look it over other then the VBA stuff… but for $70 bucks it sounds like a good deal. Trevor
I just bought Benninga. Finding it quite useful, especially chapters 3 + 4
Anyone taken a financial modeling course in Dubai? The boss told me to research modeling courses I’d be interested in doing and there seem to be lots of options like IIR, Terrapin Financial etc. They are all over $5000 for a 4-5 day course…I’m just concerned about the quality as I’m sure a large chunk of that is going to the 5-star hotel venue and its daily lunch buffet!
Hey Trevor in TO, How is the Mfin program? I am thinking of applying next year and would like to hear someones opinion about it
Hey Pat, So far so good… Some really applicable courses to the real world, and the profs are great. I’ve gotten nothing but positive feed back about the course so far from other people on Bay St. But at $55,000, I have yet to see any positive NPV, but I still have a year left before I graduate. I would finish the CFA before doing this… They are fairly picky on who they let in, and the CFA will give you a good base the program builds on. Trevor
