LMAO
Is the confederate flag a sign of racism or a sign of states rights?
The Confederate flag is a symbol of racism that was used by traitors to the United States of America.
Meanwhile, more than 42,000 Americans have died from COVID, and this is what Donald Trump cares about this morning…
I have a hard time understanding this. The liberal progressives praise Colin Kaepernick for kneeling at the national anthem, claiming that he’s “raising awareness” for black rights. (Or something like that.) They praise the Mexican-Americans (most of whom have never been to Mexico) who fly their flags, claiming that it’s a symbol of pride in your heritage. The LGBTQ community flies their rainbow-colored triangle flags to symbolize years of oppression and their struggle for equality.
I don’t like any of the above. I think that Kaep & Company should stand for the flag and national anthem. I think that Mexicans who have never been to Mexico should embrace the freedoms and economic well-being that the receive in the United States. (Especially since they are illegally crossing the border to get here. This is an indisputable fact.) I think that transgender and “questioning” people should use the bathroom that corresponds to their genitalia, and that we should no longer ask about “gender” (a term without meaning) and instead ask about “sex”, which is biological in nature.
I have been told that I am simply misinterpreting Kaep’s message, and that I should seek to understand the Mexican culture, and that I should respect the LBGTQ community. And on all fronts, I’m the “oppressor” or “aggressor” who should extend to them an olive branch.
Yet, if I fly a Confederate flag, I’m branded as un-American, racist, gun-toting, traitor motherf*cker who should go kill himself. (Note - I’m from a Confederate state, and I have ancestors fought and died in the Civil War.)
i think of the phrase when in rome then do roman ■■■■.
i actually kind of agree. i dont like it when ppl have an intense pride of their country of origin. you are in america. be american.
with that i do repsect other cultures. for example i ate el pollo loco with my spicy latina. to be honest i hate mexican food. but she has such strong feelings over her country its nauseating. and with all the china hate going around. i also enjoyed some panda express showing my deep appreciation to the chinese culture. I ATE SUM DIM SUM and then some.
lol imagine some foreign flag in your neighborhood. my first thought owuld be are we being invaded. hahahahahaa
as for the lgbtq, i think you are in the wrong. the majority in the us are cool with it. at least in la. you need to evolve.
That’s a well thought out, antagonistic post. I think you’ll get some takers on this one.
Question to Frisian (et al):
Why do we hail Washington, Jefferson, Adams, and Hamilton as heroes and fly their flag? And why do we villify Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis?
The obvious answer - Washington (and company) won their war. Davis (and company) lost theirs. When you lose the war, your heritage is destroyed, and all your “idols” are torn down, and you are forced into submission by the person who defeated you.
So here’s some other questions: Who won the Mexican War? (Hint–not the Mexicans.) Who won the war against the Native Americans? (Hint - not the Native Americans.) Who won the “war” to enslave the blacks in Sub-Saharan Africa which resulted in hundreds of thousands of them being thrown into slavery? (Hint–not the blacks.)
Why the disconnect? Why should I, as a loser of a war, be treated differently from Mexicans, Native Americans, and African Americans who lost their war? Why do their symbls deserve respect, and yet mine do not? Why should we allow them to embrace their heritage, yet I am not allowed to embrace mine?
i think its because minorites have a disadvantage. so they are proud of being a minority. like if you have a a handicap and you got to the same position. then you must be better than the other white guy. im not too sure about this though. just my guess.
imagine if we lost the war to britain. im sure washinton wouldnt be a hero either. also nobody likes rebels and secessionists. it was like when caesar won the civil war and asked for a triumph. people saw it in bad taste.
Well generally (although I don’t know the specifics of the Mexican or Native wars) the victor was fighting against some sort of oppression. The civil war, and I’m sure there’s argument against, is primarily remembered as a war against slavery. That’s likely a narrow view of a much bigger picture, but there’s no denying it played a part. For that reason the confederate flag is mostly viewed as racist, and not merely the independence of the south.
It’s like saying it’s cool to fly Nazi flags. Why are they not allowed to embrace their heritage of utter oppression and genocide?
we glorify alexander, julius caesar, genghis khan, and napoleon. all of them committed genocide.
The Civil War was not really about slavery. It was about states’ rights. States’ rights to own slaves, that is.
Also, the USA is still operating under the same general political regime as it was during the Civil War. This is not the case for Napoleonic France, ancient Rome, etc. So, people flying a rebel flag in the USA are viewed as traitors, aside from racists due to the implicit support of slavery or the ideas underpinning it.
If they’ve never been to Mexico, how did they cross the border to get here?
At least one of those sounds disputable.
OK, since you’re being unduly argumentative and focusing on semantics…
Hispanic-Americans of Mexican descent (who have never been to Mexico) should embrace American culture, especially since Mexicans are illegally crossing the border to attain the economic benefits associated with living in the United States. (The fact that they are crossing illegally, and are therefore illegal aliens is beyond dispute. Whether it is good public policy, or “fair”, or “morally repugnant”, or “they should be separated from their families” is debatable. But they are crossing the border illegally, per the laws of the United States.)
I’m not focusing on semantics.
It’s indisputable that some Mexicans come to the US illegally, and entirely possible that some of them fly the Mexican flag. (I have no direct evidence on the latter.)
It’s entirely possible that people of Mexican descent who have lived their entire lives in the US fly the Mexican flag. (Again, I have no direct evidence of this.)
It’s indisputable that these two groups are mutually exclusive, yet you said that they are not only not mutually exclusive, they’re coincident.
It simply struck me as funny.
I agree that people living (permanently) in the US should embrace American culture. Further than that, I think that the whole hyphenation thing (Hispanic-American, African-American, Asian-American, whatever-American) is silly. Is there any other country where the citizenry are hyphenated? Are there African-Germans? Indian-English? Asian-French? I, for one, have never heard such terms.

What’s the political party breakdown of the Senate intelligence committee? (Trying to anticipate spurious, dismissive arguments from . . . well . . . you know.)
Trump doesn’t recall five rallies he attended in February and one in March?

Is he lying, or is he going senile?
If you violate the law shouldn’t you be locked up? That makes sense to me.
