It mentioned some other title which were handed out at a dime-a-dozen over the last few years. I have worked for two of the larger brokerages over the last few years and both have cracked down on “bogus” titles. Pretty much can only use CFA, CFP, CIMA or PhD on your business card and/or signature. There are a few others, but I feel these are most important. Compliance has really stepped up since I started in 2003 in all facets of our business and kept tens of thousands of advisors in line. Please tell me an industry where there aren’t a few rotten people…especially, the positions that people on this site will hold or do hold. My guess…none. I am not saying that this justifies what this guy did or that it is ok to let crap like this happen, but please do not lump all of us into the same category. Or anywhere near that category. If you do, it is plain ignorance. And please pay attention to the designations used in the articles…how do you confuse CFP with nhlpa (or whatever it was)?? Seriously?
Is the CFP only applicable state side? I’m guessing it is. Yeah, I could google it…
