We were just hanging out Wednesday and saying we’re going to have to meet up with you once he’s in town. I’ve got a bunch of friends down there so it’ll be easy to make an excuse to take the Boston AF meetup to Philly.
Congrats to the OP! Talk about an embarrassment of riches. Clearly an overachiever. Is there any back story out there on why these two schools are trying so hard to woo you???
But if I may offer my own advice (worthless as it may be, because I never had to choose between such hacksaw schools), which one fits your personality better? And where will you have a better GPA or better chance of graduating? And even if Penn is the better NPV, do you have the funds to finish school?
I think that “personalty fit” is waaay underrated in all aspects of society. If NYU is more diverse and includes people in your socioeconomic strata (or religion or interest or what have you), then you might find that to be a better school. EG - I could never ever go to Texas A&M, because it ain’t nothin’ but a cult, and I hate everything about it. I would rather go to Texas Tech (a far inferior school, academically), because I wouldn’t have to put up with the stupidity. Similarly, I wouldn’t go to Texas Southern, because it is a historically black college, and I’m white. I wouldn’t fit in. And that affects you more than you realize. (Oddly, I think I would go to Texas Women’s University. 1:11 male-to-female ratio.)
I assume (and somebody can tell me if I’m wrong) that if UPenn is a better school, then it must be more difficult. If it’s more difficult, and you can’t graduate (or graduate with a relatively poor GPA), then maybe NYU is a better choice. Better to graduate NYU with a 3.5 than graduate UPenn with a 2.0.
Also, if you don’t have $100k and can’t borrow $100k, then…there’s your answer.
I also just really want to say–I speak out of 100% total ignorance on these kind of matters. I just think you should ask yourself more than just “which school has better rankings according to USNWR”.
