^Welcome to Oakland Mr. Blount.

ben tate > blunt

ben tate = my 3rd round draft pick :frowning:

^ Better than my 3rd round pick, Zac Stacy.

good move by the steelers. Blount really only had one good game this year (against Carolina). No need for his attitude.

Except my 1st round pick was Montee Ball.

Upset alert - Raiders will get their first win of the season tonight.

Jk sweep. I know you’ve been tailgating for a few hours now.

I predicted a Jets win over the Steelers a few weeks ago but I wouldn’t go as far today and predict a Raiders win.

BTW, Raiders are 0-16 in their last 16.

good call so far

biggest loser?

Good call until he added jk in the following post.

Uh oh. Sorry I jnxed you, sweep.

god damn it

Yeah. The predicted upset post WAS going to be the call of the year.

So…it’s almost Thanksgiving. All of the teams have had their byes (or have them this week). It’s time to pick division winners.

As far as I know, the only team that has officially been eliminated from playoff competition is Oakland. But it’s fair to say that the Jets, Jags, Giants, and Skins won’t make it either. I would add the 2-8 Buccaneers to that list, but they’re only two games behind their division leader.

Starting with the NFC:

East - Dallas and Philadelphia have a de facto tie. They’ll still play each other twice.

North - Detroit and Green Bay have the same record, but Detroit beat GB earlier in the year. They’ll still play each other one more time.

South - this division sucks. The best teams are 4-6. But somebody’s got to win it. New Orleans and Atlanta are tied, but Atlanta beat NO already. They meet again at the end of the year.

West - Arizona certainly has the lead here. But they’re without Carson Palmer for the rest of the year, and they have to play Seattle twice and @San Francisco.

And in the AFC:

East - New England’s probably got this division wrapped up. Miami is two games behind, but they beat NE the first game of the year.

North - virtual tie for first place. This division may very well field three playoff teams, and we won’t know who they are until the last week of the season.

South - Indianapolis has a one-game lead over Houston, and has already beaten Houston in Houston.

West - The only thing we know for sure is that Oakland’s out. KC just lost to Oakland, and they still have to play Denver, @Arizona, @Pittsburgh, and San Diego. San Diego’s schedule is even worse–@Baltimore, New England, Denver, @SF, @KC. Denver definitely has the easiest schedule.

This will be decided next week when we play the donkeys. Losing to the Raiders may actually give us the kick in the pants we need to beat Denver.

I’m trying my best to look on the bright side of things today.

I’m going to largely stand by my original picks, mainly because I picked Arizona to win the NFC West.

May I also add…for the most part, I like the NFL’s playoff system the way it is. Win your divison, host a playoff game. There are two wildcard spots for those good teams that deserve to go to the playoffs but just happen to have a really good team in their divison (like KC last year, for example).

And if you add the fact that you play your divison opponents twice, then you see why the NFL has the best rivalries in sports. You don’t ever hear the NBA talking about the need to beat X team so they can win their divison and go to the playoffs.

That being said, I wouldn’t mind if the NFL imposed a “win 8 games or you don’t go to the playoffs” rule. If you can’t post a .500 record, then I think you’ve really lost the right to be in the playoffs. EG - the winner of the AFC South this year (if the playoffs started today) should forfeit their playoff spot to somebody in the AFC North or AFC West.

^ I can’t agree with keeping a division winner out of the playoffs regardless of their record. I could get on board with giving home field to a wild card team if the division winner has fewer than 8 wins and/or the wild card team’s record is much better than the division winner, say 3 more wins than them. For example, wild card team is 11-5 and division winner is 8-8, the WC team gets to host.
