Where do you see work experience accepted?
There’s a part of the websit that says “passed level iii? Find out what to do next,” or somesuch. When you click there, there’s a link to “check status of your application” and there you can see stuff. You may have to type in a password and username.
Can you post the hyperlink it goes to for check status of app?
OMG! If this is true, I probably have a shot, too. - I’m a software engineer with no finance background except CFA - I work for an OMS vendor - I design and implement electronic trading platforms for all kinds of assets, equity, currency, options, swaps, TBAs and etc. oagra Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > They accept more or less any work experience. > Consider this scenario: > > - A programmer with no finance background expect > CFA (took 3 years to get Level III) > - He works for an investment back as a > programmer. > - He works in this bond trading platform, but the > part he works on is not at all financial, just the > interface. > - After 4 years, he submits 48 months of work > experience, saying how the CFA helped him > understand the complexity of bonds for this > trading platform that he has been working on. > > - Do you think they accept his work experience? of > course they do, 48/48 months accepted, and at the > age of 26 with no finance background or experience > except the CFA exams he has a full charter, and > the nice CFA letters after his name. > > - I know at least 5 ppl that fit the above > scenario.
PTrainerNY - CFA Institute sends you an email with your Membership Status. If your work experience is approved, you will be a Regular member. Otherwise you are an Affilliate member. Either way, you will receive an email from CFA Institute.
My q is do they accept experience from commercial banking, from one who was an auditor an reviewed Treasury Management…I did that for 2 years…

That must have sped things up for you because my application has been under review for 9 weeks.
do they give you any sort of response before you have both sponsors ? I only have one sponsor ( supervisor ) as of now .
Hi, For those w/o finance background and got work experience accepted, how do you find a sponsor?
Best way is to show up at local CFA society events, and meet people. CFAI also has some program called remote sponsorship or somesuch, designed for just such situations. Dig around on the membership FAQ to figure it out. If you are a frequent poster, a friend on this board might be willing to put in a good word. They would need to have the charter already, though. Also, I don’t think they even evaluate your work experience until your sponsor forms are in.

How do I come to know whether they have accepted to work exp or not for when you initially post the work experience it shows 0 months accepted now if the work exp is rejected how does one come to know about it?
bchadwick, Thank you for your help. Also, it seems like no one answering this post. I am sure those w/o finance background and have their work experience accepted should be able to answer this. Can anyone please help? I am curious to find out the answers too. javiers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Has anybody got the experience accepted answering > Questions 6,7 and 8 of the Sponsor Form with a > No? > > SUPERVISORS ONLY Please complete questions 6–8. > (and be sure to check the supervisor box in > section 2) > 6. I don’t know. In my case I used two CFA charterholders, since I am currently self-employed. I would think that ibankers get “no” for these questions and yet get experience approved because of valuation experience, even if there is no recommendation for inclusion in portfolios.
so when do you get the charter?
Congrats, bchadwick!
hi bchadwick. quick question: after you have seen they accept your work experience online. What else do you need to do and how long will that take afterwards? please let me know. thanks!
I really don’t know for sure. I assume it will be sometime late september or early october to get the letter, because that’s when it’s been in previous years (from posts I’ve seen here). I gather what needs to happen is that the local society needs to accept you (usually just a formality, I’d think, as long as you are willing to pay up the membership fees), and then you’re good to go.
My understanding is you will pay the local society membership fee plus CFAI due ($225) together via CFAI website. Please correct me if I am wrong. Do I need to pay before I got “formally accepted by my local society”? Because I may need to go thru some HR hassle for my company. So just wanna know the sequence.
127 Months Submitted, 101 Months Accepted Yeah!!!
