What’s your resume look like? Major/GPA? What kind of job are you angling for? How hacksaw are your degrees?

MBA GPA 3.909

Finance undergrad GPA 3.44

Economics undergrad GPA 3.125

Accounting minor

a few 94+ percentile standarized test scores

MBA finance corporate internship for oil and gas firm

2 years experience as an independent personal trainer

experience as a finance/eco/accounting tutor

As far as how hacksaw are my degrees, undergrad school is top 100 or top 75, and then the MBA is from a school that’s top 13% in admissions selectivity on the princeton review, but most employers probably dont realize it because it’s not exactly a big name school, so it seems more hacksaw than perhaps it is.

Im just looking for entry-level corporate roles.

^ That doesn’t seem terrible. Not amazing but not bottom of the barrel.

I think I need a little more color. Where are you in the US? By entry-level corporate jobs, do you mean corporate finance?

Also, on a more general note, it seems like you have a big chip on your shoulder. No one wants to hire some dude who seems both full of himself and resentful that he’s not more successful. Instead of insecure/desperate/arrogant, you’re going to want to project happiness and confidence. Just start smiling, bro. Things aren’t too bad.

Yeah I mean corporate finance or corporate strategy. Really? Id want to hire someone with a chip on their should and something to prove. They would “perform angry” and hence do a better job imo

Guys like that are toxic for a company. They infect morale and make people quit. Note that there’s a massive difference between resentful and ambitious/hungry. Strive for the latter. No one wants to get near the former.

You can argue that you should hire someone who’s angry because they might work harder. That’s not necessarily true, though it might be in some cases.

The bigger problem is that we spend large portions of our lives at work and around our work colleagues. The work itself can be quite stressful at times. Constantly angry colleagues just make it that much worse and unpleasant. Who wants to add to the misery by hiring the angry guy, if there is a pleasant person who is either just as hard-working or efficient enough that you won’t notice the difference?

I’m not surprised Vandelay is still unemployed after months of looking. judging by his attitude, I wouldn’t want him even if he was an unpaid intern.

You mean like this guy? http://www.analystforum.com/forums/careers/91327195

Flashman has given you some great advice. Seriously, lighten up.

I havent been looking for months. I just started a week ago. Wow that’s quite an insult. Im disappointed to hear you say that.

I have to actually get an interview first for that to happen. It’s not like i keep interviewing and getting denied.

Ah Flashman beat me to the post…

Maybe you should actually use Numis resume review service.

Are you getting any feedback at all? What sort of approach are you taking, actively looking and applying everyday, or more relaxed and taking it slow until you graduate?

Already applied. Got an emal from them providing a specific link to their website asking me to apply. Clicked the link and the position wasnt listed. Emailed the guy back and havent received a response yet

I would estimate I have spent over 50 hours working on my resume. I have poured over it for months, adding and subtracting different things. Ive had several qualified people look at it and they say it looks good.

RIght now I am taking it fairly slowly and relaxed. Havent gotten to desperation mode yet

You must be doing something very wrong if looking at entry level corporate finance positions and not getting results. Unless your opinion of entry level is Fortune 2,000 CFO en route to your Fortune 500 ambition. I’d seriously call up Numi and get him to review. There is something very wrong with your resume or target market. And just getting some friend to take a look isn’t a good review. You get the advice you pay for.

The whole idea is to avoid the “desperation mode” situation. When you get desperate, you settle. It’s best to be more aggressive now while you’re not desperate.

I nominate H.P. for Best Newcomer to AF.

They arent friends for review. They are former and current HR managers at Fortune 500 companies, multiple employees at the school’s career center, and some AF members. Do you think my lineup of credentials is solid enough? Ive gotten nothing but denials so far, and rarely even a response
