yeah, i think 70k is on the higher end for essentially a ‘trader assistant’ which is different than an ‘assistant trader’… the former being more involved with the PnL and system portfolio administration. the role of “fund accountant” in general terms probably pays 45-70k depending on product and experience, with team managers making more.
the assistant trader is a FO position that works on the desk and is involved with the investment analysis and trade execution… potentially getting a serious bonus.
contractors make more with the understanding the position may be short term and if hired into a full time position would be offered less. with that said, i know people in “documentation compliance roles” (low technical skills) that as a senior make over 100k.
im probably an expert on back office operations and organizational infrastrusture.
Ideally use qualifications and seach for promissing higher paying jobs. You seem to have a pretty unique skill set, so it really depnds on your (actual) time horizon.
If you do end up going for a quick attainable job like staff accountant, dumbing down your resume/ lifetime aspirations makes sense.
One of my coworkers recently quit, so I was interviewing people to replace him (for a reh-tard accounting job similar to my own). Any candidate who honed in on very unrelated finance aspirations, had established sales experience, planned on or was already doing MBA… big points against. I have no interest in training somebody who will be there until the second another job comes through. Then l’m temporarily stuck with more work again and training another new person. F that
I’m going to be honest with you chief i graduated in 1996 and just did a basic 17 yr comparison using 3% annual inflation and I don’t know how you are going to live in NYC on 45k. That is the equivalent of 27k when I graduated and I lived in the suburbs of Boston. Dirt cheap compared to Manhattan rent. Is this your only option? Your life will be working to pay rent.
Has any one’s job search been successful using e-financial careers? That looks like a joke here in Asia. Key to securing a interview is networking.Signup for a local society, attend events and parallely prepare for CFA.
