Scalia

Yea it went through. the STOCK Act, although I believe its a MUCH watered down version of what should really be in place. Havent seen any data on the returns since, so I would imagine no they havent and they are keeping it quiet. I think it has a lot of loopholes and such.

I doubt you will see any data, at least soon. My understanding is that the disclosures that would allow someone to do a study of the data are stored as PDFs on an offline PC in a room in the Capitol Building. Further, the disclosures for each member of congress are separately stored, so someone wanting to compile the data would have to open each individual disclosure form to read or print it ($0.10 per page to print) to find the data.

McCain was sitting in the Commerce, Sience, and Transportation committee while his wife owned stocks in Anheuser-Busch (family business), a financial company (can’t remember which one), and an airline company ( can’t remember, maybe US Airways at the time). Stock ownership was in this order, and I don’t recall any other stocks. You will not find a straightforward connection on any of the Gongressmen/Senators. But conflict of interest was clear in all the cases. It happened and it was legal. Why I mentioned John McCain specifically? Because of his high profile. I would have mentioned Hillary’s white water, but this was already mentioned in this Forum.

On the good side, I find Chuck Hagel among the most decent politicians (RIP Colin Powell)
