Skills and Habits of CFA candidates?

there’s plenty of time for porn, ejaculation and drugs once you have the charter…

Its unethical bulls**t though.

If people want to take it, thats fine, let them.

It’s their mind and body they are punishing and they will only be able to do it for so long…

^ No. That’s bulls**t. I’ve heard the same reasoning in sport and its bulls**t. Guess what. Life is a curved test. Whether academically or professionally there are only so many top spots. If I need to do drugs to compete on a level playing field, thats wrong. In a world where we all existed in a silo it wouldn’t matter. But its not, its a competition. The idea that my kids will need to take drugs to compete on a level field in school is disgusting.

Do adderal et al really make that much of a difference? longer term it can’t be that beneficial.

people who take it, swear by it. but no one really knows. definitely unethical though, since not everyone has access. Assuming tremendous benefits and no side effects with equal access, thats progress.

Adderall is certainly popular on college campuses. In terms of my peers at work, roughly a fourth or fifth of them have told me they use it and there could be more. It kind of pisses me off – I don’t use it. It’s essentially amphetamines/speed but people don’t seem to consider it a drug even if they start getting withdrawal symptoms when they stop. It’s like people thinking Oxycontin is OK b/c it’s from a doctor, but it’s basically morphine or heroin.

The use of this stuff bothers me and it’s popular, at least in the US. I know I’m taking the CFA exam with people using it. Students at my college used the drug, too. MTV actually made a documentary about use of it specifically at my college around 10 years ago.

I drink a lot of coffee so I’m not perfect but I don’t consider it nearly the same.

^ that rambling reminds me of someone who had way too much coffee and kept going

I used to love me some adderall (weed, alcohol, etc.) and swore it’s what kept me in school (albeit with a pathetic GPA). I’ve since straightened out and no longer touch any of the aforementioned substances and graduated a different school with a much more respectable GPA and went through the CFA program.

I think the stuff really helps you focus but in the same way that coffee can help a person that doesn’t drink much of it. In school, I struggled immensely with focus so I turned to adderall. Now, a little motivation (and a fair amount of coffee) serves the same purpose.

I swore everyone in college thought they had ADD or ADHD. Long-term, there are absolutely deleterious effects - especially for those to which it isn’t prescribed.

I used adderall during my CFA exams. Not pround of it, but I’ll admit it.

Yes, it absolutely is a PED. Without adderall, I could focus on studying for an hour, maybe two if I’m lucky. With adderall, I could study for five, six, eight hours.

However, when I stopped using it, I wasn’t able to concentrate on anything for even ten minutes. I got over it pretty quick, but if I had taken it long-term, it might have been worse.

I had a class in vector analysis just after lunch in the Fall of 1979. I sat in the back corner, on the right, and generally fell asleep in class. It was early afternoon, right after lunch.

I took the final exam on the last day of classes (the week before the final exam week) because I was getting married that evening and wouldn’t be around during finals week (honeymoon).

My professor swears that I learned more while I was asleep in class than anyone else did while they were awake.

Taking drugs to help in school, or during a test, is stupid.

When my managing director is making bonus decisions, he gives a d**n about whether someone is popping a an amphetamine pill in the morning to help them concentrate. CFAI doesn’t care. If my boss knew 25% (or more) of his analysts/associates were using amphetamines, it may surprise him but I don’t think he’d care. I don’t like it but I can’t do anything about it. Shire Pharmaceuticals is making a killing off it, too. Nobody seems to care. It’s all about the Benji’s

Then your managing director’s an idiot.

LOL respect for honesty. You watch workaholics? s**t is hilarious. saw it for first time. 4 seasons on amazon prime for free. this will be my go to when i get tired of practice questions.

I’m on your page, but its true. No bosses are asking, “Hey are you taking adderall? Do you have a 'script?” People just don’t seem to care. Professors don’t when they are giving out grades. I don’t dislike my friends at work for using it or anything, but I don’t like that it’s implicitly accepted. None of them think they’re “drug addicts”, but they kind of are.

Everyone has trouble concentrating to varying degrees. I get in to work and study at my desk from 6:30 to 8am. I drink a coffee and listen to house/trance/EDM music (preferably no vocals) while practicing problems and I’m normally locked in studying. My third year of doing this now and I’ve actually started to like it b/c I discover new music I otherwise never would have listened to. Only bring it up b/c there are effective alternatives to using drugs to help you get by – upbeat music keeps me alert

I’ll step down from complaining. I don’t like how popular study drugs are, but what can I do? Ironically, complaining about it is only distracting me from studying
