I know a guy that sat for L2 4 times. Personally, I have sat for a total of five exams L1 twice (the first time I really didn’t study), L2 twice (studied both times, just didn’t have enough time after passing L1 in December), and L3 once. Anybody sat for CFA exams more than 5 times?
^My experience is the exact same as yours.
CFAI ran a “special biography” about some Lenny who took the test 21 times. He said there was one time that he looked at the first question on the test, and walked right out. I don’t know if this was a good commercial or not.
On one hand, kudos to the dude for chasing his dream. On the other hand…how much could you have accomplished in those 21 years if you had applied yourself differently?
Dec 2013 L1 - Band 10
Jun 2014 L1 - Pass
Jun 2015 L2 - Pass
Jun 2016 L3 - ???
My first attempt at L1 was a joke, I don’t even know how I pulled a B10. I started late and basically punted October when the Red Sox won the World Series. I took the official mock a week out and guessed on more than half the questions, I really almost didn’t even show up to the exam. But I’m glad I got the fail because it taught me not to be a donk and actually try at something for once in my life.
Level 1 - 1
Level 2 - 3
Level 3 - 2nd attempt awaiting results…hoping this would be it… end of long journey
Once.
(However, to enter a PhD program, I’ll have to take the GRE a second time, as my first one was more than 5 years ago. Does that count as twice?)
Yes it counts as a second sitting. Obama had to be re-elected a second time because the first one was 4 years ago.
L1 - Once
L2 & 3 - Never.
CPA
Didnt appear for the exam passed through time travel and teleportation.
On a serious note, once for level 1 and hopefully the same for level 2
