Looking to break out of the pack at the start of the West Chester Mile (in purple)
Ace… how about that dude with the matching socks and shoes…lol. I of course had to beat at least THAT guy.
nice mizunos… always looking good KMD Yeah, total chump he is. I mean if you’re going to go full out below the knee, you have to roll with it a little bit on the rest of your body. I can wear crazy shoes or something, but to wear socks like that, you have to go with some bright thick 80s style bracelets and or a headband. Just a neon headband would have made that guy less chumpy and more ironic, especially if he is the rabbit. You did beat him though, yes? What did he get??
Also, this rush chick nearly hit me in the face today. I really almost got whacked. She was on the corner and showing something to her friend. I was going relatively quick - about 24mph and her hand was suddenly right in my face. She pulled a real jerky/spaz move, just blerrrp…she must have said “oh right there!” to her friend. I think I dodged her hand/finger by a few millimeters, head going around them, matrix style. Was some sick shit.
I’m just tearing through food right now. Everything. Its insane - I can’t keep up with all the boxes and crap so need to start getting organized and putting my trash out for the valet that comes from 8-10pm at night. I bought 6 boxes of Kind pressed fruit (these little nuggets), but unfortunately I don’t really like them. My taste buds are very discerning right now and they are edible, but will have to mix them into something, I can’t eat them alone. I like the “That’s It” pressed fruit a lot better, but I think they are more expensive. My new Tri Fly VI (Tri shoes) came today and they are sick. They look pretty good, although I don’t really like any white on my shoes (its weird) and I always keep having to get white shoes/boots. For these, it was the only Tri Flys I could find. But, these look and feel super legit. They are of just much better quality than the IVs and super super light. Excited to test these out. I seem to be going pretty far on 150oz. I think I was high 175.X this morning when I left (weighed in once at 176.2). I’m not sure if it is the weight or my body consuming less water, but my body is becoming more efficient. I’d have a much better idea at this equation if I had more data from my watch, but I still haven’t figured this Apple Watch out yet. I’m getting there. It seems like a huge battery drain from using it for one ride. The interface and link with my phone is pretty awesome though. With the Fitbit, I could only control the iPhone Pandora streaming songs from my headphones, but the nice thing with this is that I can change the Pandora station or something without having to open up my bag to get the watch. I pay for it in battery life, but it seems cool so far. I think I might have to bring a charger to charge devices on long rides. It eats up my phone battery too it seems. I want to spray paint my shoes, but I did spray paint the other ones and it peeled off. I need to buy this special spray paint called Nu-something … sometime…
damn, I actually just saw I have 9 boxes of that gross ‘Kind pressed fruit’ stuff… faaaaackkkkk
nooooooooooooo
Yes! I beat all those peeps except the one woman who beat me by 1 sec. The sock guy probably did about 5:35. Those Mizunos are my “racing shoes” which I use for everything from a track mile to half Ironman (use my regular running shoes for a full). If you look close you can see the elastic laces so I can put them on fast in triathlon transition
With all this food intake, how is your gut handling it? Are you constantly pooping … or what?

With all this food intake, how is your gut handling it? Are you constantly pooping … or what?
Nah, just once a day when I get up, not really any other time. I ate a ton of food today. I still can’t figure out the calorie counter on this Apple watch and its becoming a pain as I was used to the Fitbit tracker. I have no idea when I’m hitting 4000 and how much I need to eat and have to rely on very odd body mechanisms to give me an idea (I start getting these odd pains when I need protein or something). Lately, its been in my jaw. If I’m riding for a while and am about to calorie crash, my jaw starts hurting by my ear. I sprained it 6-8 weeks ago in Muay Thai as I didn’t block a light hook in sparring. When it starts to tell me its still there, I know I need another 1500 cal at least. It could be psychological, I don’t know. But, tonight I was on my second session (27mi (62mi total for day)) and I was about to go home and was maybe 6mi away, but had a massive hunger pang and had to ride 2mi to this diner as I didn’t think I was going to make it and only had 320 cal in my pack (RX bar, GU pack). So of course, pulled up to Waffle House, shirt off and everything. Had 2 scrambled eggs, 4 eggs over easy, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 sausage patties, hash browns, and a thick piece of ham, the size of the large plate. I did put a Vans shirt on for the meal. It cost nothing, gave a good tip and biked home in an ok state. I was partly ok with tearing apart my quads tonight, at least tearing the muscle a bit more than normal, but they held up more than I thought, which means I have to deal with easing into the heavy miles carefully as cyclists can get some pain in the ass injuries (literally) - saddle sores, blisters, odd stuff that comes up that is very painful. I’ve had nearly all of them before and a bad saddle sore or blisters on your hands or feet can completely ruin training. So I am careful to avoid all of those things and if I am doing heavy seated work (which I don’t normally do), I make sure to wear my Tri shorts under my boardshorts because they have that padding in them (Zoom Tri Shorts). I’ve gone through 50.9oz of Orange Gatorade powder pretty quickly (63 12oz liquid servings), but I don’t drink it at 100% potency, usually 80-85%, so its probably 90 12oz liquid servings. Luckily, another vat of this stuff came in tonight, 76.5oz of powder of Lemon Lime Gatorade. I was getting sick of Orange. That says its 94 12oz servings, so maybe 120 12oz servings for me? I consume at least 300 ounces of the stuff on 2/days. I tested out the new Tri Fly VI Shoes tonight. They are real nasty. Like super nasty. Way better than I thought. I put on the cleats in haste, but they are only off by 1-2mm or less. They feel so awesome. They are lighter and more rigid than the IVs, but power-wise, I am cranking out some heavy power on those. My power output is solid in these at different angles too, so my sprint pump is sickening. Like throw up on the curb sick, its so damn amazing. My sprints were so strong tonight, I have kind of a superfunk sprint that has turned into this real hip hop looking bouncing around sprint that gets smiles from all the chicks around if they see me pumping. Its pretty wild, but I’m back to 25mph with the cars in a few seconds after red lights/stop signs, in a 25-35mph zone. The roads were pretty clear tonight and I felt safer than in the daytime. I know most of the potholes and little hazard areas around all of the streets by now, so at night I have a very good sense of what to dodge. I almost got hit 10min into my ride though, I just got downtown and this dude is in the opposite lane of a 4 lane street with a double yellow line in the middle and pulls a U-ey real quick and just about T boned me when I was going the other way all the way in the far lane. It was fucking nuts. I had 1-2 cm on my right as clearance from the parked car on my right and he totally boxed me in and avoided my leg by about 6inches. I haven’t checked the video, but think I got him on the front and rear cams and made sure to flash my cam on his plate as he passed and pretty sure I got his plate on video. I’m sure this is the first of many video records of bad drivers and at some point need to get in touch with the cycling community and start feeding this stuff to them as leverage to the city to pay for bike lanes and better infrastructure. I generally do not want to get involved, but as I spend more time on the streets, I’m getting a lot of smiles and waves and I see a lot of the service workers and bell hops and all the people who put in the time on the streets and the corners on every loop and repeat that do, so I seem to be integrating myself into a fixture of the city. I even hear the tour guides saying stuff on their horse/carriage as I do laps around them. Also, I have started to be a ‘first waver’ to cyclists. I wave to nearly all cyclists now and care greatly about the rules of the road and safety for families and children just out for a fun day walking or touring the city. This is paramount. But, I can’t exactly say this to the ‘pure cyclers’ and I’ve been getting wave snubbed by a few of these guys around the city (mainly on the bridge). There is one pure cycler I’m “in” with though, he’s a real oddball, looks european. I pass him every now and then. He takes off his helmet and rides the bridge with his shirt open at the end of his workouts and I don’t wear a shirt or a helmet, so I guess we are pals. He gives me a huge wave and smile everytime I pass this dude. He’s hilarious. I’ve found a course I think I can get KOM (King of the Mountain) on Strava. I was looking at someone else’s stats today and saw they were KOM on the bridge for a 2-repeat session. Assuming they track times for a 3-repeat session, I think I am going to plan to try to hit the endurance end of KOM on repeats and beat everyone at 5-repeats or so (or more if needed), and work my way down to KOM 4-repeat then 3-repeat. I don’t think I can get 1-2 repeat KOM as those times are insane. These guys have $8K setups and are 150lbs. Strava is fun though, I like the competitive aspect to the app, making this training a lot more fun.

The sock guy probably did about 5:35.
5:35 is a real weak time for that outfit. Thats a 5:20 or less outfit, minimum. 5:08 is ok, 5:05 expected, especially with that guy’s build.
Your quads look so ripped in that photo, KMD, rockstar… You’re definitely representing the experienced Tri competitor look there among the feeble single sport athletes (freaking runners) - I like it
this guy… If he did hit me it would have been a low speed knock, but could still break an ankle or some random crap like that… last second, I had a split second thought to maybe do a quick bunny hop onto the guy’s hood. If he was about to hit my leg, I was going to pull some crazy shit. he came across that white dotted line in the next frame which is blind on both cameras and as I realized I slightly made it out of the situation, I looked at him and he about shit his pants and he was driving some chick around and didn’t see her face. My diet has still been pretty normal, in terms of foods. I did eat two croissant sandwiches this weekend, I was hungry (I usually don’t eat grains). They were good. Ate pretty well yesterday, still eating a bit of cheese and stuff, had steak last night. Weighed in this morning at 173.8lbs. I feel at a pretty decent weight to run (on 9/9). I’m not looking for a certain weight, just to train hard and be as fast as I can be (and to beat KMD.
So going into it, I know I need to be at 5:15 pace to be competitive. It is a pretty good match up actually. I still wish we were in the same heat. That would be sick.
She’s amazing. Marriage material right there…
^lolol
Wait, you still think it’s going to be a close race?

Wait, you still think it’s going to be a close race?
uhhh yeah?
I’ve sacrificed a lot for this race. I’ve been working my ass off. I didn’t start doing cycling 2/days for nothing and have missed a ton of Muay Thai classes. Like a lot a lot. At this point I have to go for it. I have to do everything I can to get low 5s.
Without running.
I definitely wasn’t in this good shape when I hit my PR of 5:18 years ago, but didn’t have this much muscle either and didn’t have the patella issues.
I’m a bit of a wildcard compared to the consistency of KMD, but I haven’t given up yet and already have flights and a hotel booked on 5th Avenue for two nights.
My bike is supposed to be out of the shop tomorrow and looking at hitting it really hard out the gate. The metric century race is this Sunday.
Not to mention I don’t really want to be this light. I’m cutting muscle for this too when I specifically went to 230lbs in weight/fat to bump my weight category hopefully up to 185lbs MMA (I was 220lbs coming down at the AF meetup last year). I didn’t make that range and was looking at 170lbs MMA category with a training range of 180-185lbs. I was pretty happy in that range and have probably cut at least 6lbs for this race specifically and am willing to go for a bit more at this point (if it happens, my goal is speed, not less weight, but less weight does help with speed) and I feel like I want to be light, but also want the nutrients from food to repair my body before I start really pushing it 10-12 days before the race. I feel like a lighter weight might be easier on my knee as well, but in general don’t want to try to be light if my body is still repairing (I need the nutrients). I feel somewhat comfortable going a bit light as my muscle memory from my desired range of 180-185lbs will bounce back. I’m confident in this because last time I hit 172 or so earlier in the year due to a metabolism out of control coming down from 192lbs, I bounced back in muscle mass and strength extremely quickly going from 172 to 182lbs in a couple of weeks. I was back up to 176 today from 173.8. I think my quads are getting heavier. I can’t do some upper body strength levels that I could do a week ago. My body is reconfiguring. Most of my drills are speed/endurance/core oriented at this point. I definitely still do a lot of arm work as it is just my routine. I could kind of elbow plank today and do some elbows on the heavy bag, but then I broke the heavy bag (D ring snapped), so I just did ground and pound for the remainder of that session.
