Could someone please explain what is the difference between active share and active weight?
Active share is the % owned vs the benchmark weight, and active weight is determined by relative market cap in proportion to its position size in a portfolio.
Can somebody explain it with an example please…?
Active share is the % of the portfolio weights that differ from the benchmark weights. An active share of 90% would represent a very active portfolio and you could even question if the benchmark was valid. An active share of 1-5% is more consistent with a tracker fund (of sort). Active risk is another term for tracking error. Active weight is a term used in the performance measurement reading and not used in the equity readings
