Advice needed!

So, I just wrote the level 1 this June. I’m awaiting my results. Not very confident with my attempt.

The background is that I just got out of college with a BBA. Did write the MBA entrances. (Here, in India MBA is done just like any masters degree the basic motivation being the good packages which you would never land with an undergrad degree) My scores werent good enough to get into a good bschool(decent to say the best) So i took up an offer with an International Bank. The role was sales and thats was the best bet I could land into. Started the CFA prep alongside and just quit the job because I wouldnt do that for the rest of my life!

I’m confused as to go ahead prepare for these bschools in India and get a relavant role and keep pursuing CFA or take up an entry level job in equity resear or such roles and continue with CFA. I did try looking out for such roles but they all demaned either an MBA or a solid work ex.

I have always been passionate about economics too, but there arnt much course here in India which offer placements post that. Reason MA =Arts being very irrelavant. That would require me to pursue it abroad and I do find it a risky as well as a pricy affair.

I’m confused which road to take.

So just to confirm, what are your options?

It sounds like its either go to grad school or work at a job you don’t have, in which case the job is not actually an option. Or do you mean a finance career vs an economics career?

IMO your first priority should be gettng a job(which u should not have quit in first place but now that’s history)…try reaching out to people in your linkedin network who works in those roles…connect with them…maybe they will help you out…no one likes a gap year

Meanwhile make up your mind where u actually want to go and what you actually want to do…

If u really want an MBA from india i think u could(worst case scenario) prepare for it for 4-5 months without a job but would have to make sure u do get into one…and IMO dont mix CFA and MBA preparations…getting an MBA(from descent scholl) would most likely get u job which u looking for in india

If you want to go for equity research type of roles and not looking to do an MBA then first option would would be good…i have seen people switching from data analytics(there are quite a few so called Non tech Firms in India which offer those roles) type roles to those equity and finance roles(there are always transferable skils)

and obviously u could wait for ur L1 results before applying for jobs may get u some leverage if u clear…but obviously meanwhile u could grow ur network
