After level 3, but not enough work experience...

What happens after you finish level3 successfully but dont have enough work experience. Obviously you dont get the CFA, but are you givne the ability to clal yourself an associate CFA or something like that. If I pass L3 in june, I will only have about 3 years of (hopefully) acceptable experience, so I am interested to know this

dude, this is covered in ethics in both L1 and L2, you must have been lucky. You’re a nothing until you have the experience and have been granted the charter

Admit I was lucky. Ethics have never been my strong point, just read my previous posts about my relationship!!

I think you can state on your resume that you are a “quasi-CFA” if you do not have the requisite work experience. Please do not guarantee results as this is an ethics violation.

I just thought maybe there was something mlike an “affiliate CFA” as other accounting like designations have this for those that have not completed required work experience but have the exam side of things done. Oh well can’t wait to get CFA out of the way, may sign up for level 3 this week!

Who cares if you have the charter or not? The fact that you passed the exams is the most important thing.

done all 3 levels here but with only 20 months work exp. most jobs, in canada at least, say CFA charterholders preferred and stuff like that. until you have the letters, it means nothing at all.

“CFA Charter Pending” is the appropriate moniker, I’m pretty sure. As for “Recruiters don’t understand that.” I’m not sure. Some recruiters are just dumb. I’ve met a fair share of pretentious idiot recruiters that talk a lot of phluff. However, there are definitely some recruiters out there that are good, so don’t dismiss them all out of hand. If you were a recruiter, and there are 1000s of people looking for positions. Would you prefer to field someone with the charter or someone without the charter? But passing the exams still gives you an advantage over people who don’t have the charter - it’s just that you will probably be competing for jobs that don’t value the charter so much because the ones that do are oversubscribed with current charterholders.

CFA or not. A little G. Bag my groceries please

CFA Charter Pending - Eligible for the charter upon meeting the work experience requirements.

I used this when waiting for the Charter. CFAI cleared this with me.

Oh really? I thought anything “pending” was against ethics

I’ll be in this boat for awhile – sitting on about 2 yrs of WE and just wrote LIII.

Nice Jay - I didn’t know that.

Where did you get this information from? The following is directly from the current SOPH. The principle clearly states you cannot use CFA or Chartered Financial Analyst designation with any kind of comment attached to it if you have not received your charter. There’s nothing pending - either you have it or you don’t. Incorrect Usage example: CFA (Passed Finalist) Principle: A candidate who has passed Level III but has not yet received his or her charter cannot use the CFA or Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Correct usage: I have passed all three levels of the CFA Program and may be eligible for the CFA charter upon completion of the required work experience.

CFA Charter Pending is correct, or at least it used to be when I took the exams a few years ago.

There is not one mention of pending (relating to referencing the CFA charter) in the 2010 curriculum – it is outlined exactly in the way VR posted above. Maybe they changed the rules?
