Alternative Investments

Level III re-taker (wrote for the first time in 2016; failed Band 10). Alt Investments is said to have been “completely rewritten” (haven’t checked to compare each old vs. new LOS). Can someone shed some light on whether ditching my old notes is a good idea. Asking because re-reading every detail (which there are A LOT of) from scratch, for a topic that has just 5% weighting is quite undesirable. Would appreciate your responses. Thanks.

Medusa… Same here. First attempt was in 2016 but failed in band 10.

I hardly find any substantial changes in Alt inv. However, I recommend to go through the LOS thoroughly.

On the same boat. And as far as I know, there is no changes. If somebody can clean up something???

My take is that the changes are in Reading 26, where they have extended/updated the data in most of the exhibits to include the effects of the recession (I believe the old data ended in 2005, with the new data going through 2015 - but I don’t have the old books in front of me to cross reference. I vaguely remember Schweser saying that the data was stale). In effect, they have pulled back a little on how much they talk about real estate being such a great risk diversifier against other assets.

Overall, I would agree that most of the concepts are similar to before. I will try to find my old textbook and report back to confirm the above.

GL the rest of the way
