As some of you know I am quite the armchair chef. I enjoy making all sorts of dishes and entertaining. Now that Obama made the slaughter of horses legal in the US, I am looking forward to preparing some dishes with horse meat. My guess is that it is pretty lean and probably similar to venison in taste and texture.
Probably start out with something simple like horse burgers so I can get a good clean taste. Then maybe something more exotic with a sauce.
I haven’t had horse, but I have had zebra once in Africa. Maybe that’s the same thing. I didn’t find it particularly tasty and don’t feel like paying people to do that to zebras.
I’ve never had it, but I have to thinik that if horse was any good it would have been a widely available meat here once horses were no longer vital to industry as service animals. Its not like we have any aversion to killing things.
Does kind of make you wonder about the starving people here in the US. You’d think we could feed everyone if horses, dogs, and cats were butchered upon death rather than…whatever it is that’s done with them. I guess it’s more economical to turn horses into glue and dog food. Still might have to look into the dog and cat idea though. I might be able to turn a socially responsible profit!
Do you know what also makes me wonder about the starving people here in the US? The fact that close to one third of US people are obese. You’d think we could feed everyone if half of the people you know, stopped stuffing their faces.
False. Obese people are willing/have the ability to pay more for food than starving people. Now, if we could feed fat people to the starving people, not only would we solve the hunger issue, but health care costs would decrease. Come to think of it, we could do the same to the unemployed. Jesus, I should run for President.
Nothing wrong with eating horse, I haven’t tried it but have enjoyed plenty of similar meals (kangaroo, crocodile, zebra, warthog, springbok, kudu, ostrich, giraffe, impala). My only rule is not to eat any animal which eats other animals (fish excluded). So no dog or cat for me thanks.
Crocs don’t just eat meat. They have been known to eat their children. They like to keep cannibalism within the family, I guess. Crocs taste a lot like chicken, but gamier. I guess that is reasonable evidence that chickens (part of the bird family) descend from dinosaurs. Although ostrich/emu/rhea tastes a lot like beef, so there goes that theory.
