Asterisk in display of an answer on TEXAS BA II Plus

When I do TVM calculations, and compute PMT I get the little asterisk above the answer sometimes, what does this mean?!? My answers are not correct and i cannot fathom why.

The asterisk indicates that the value was computed in the worksheet: it’s not an error condition.

If your answers are incorrect, double check your inputs for P/Y, C/Y, BEG vs. END, N, PV, etc. If you have a specific example, feel free to post it.

I am encountering the same problem. Im trying to follow along with an example in the Kaplan material and he says that with a PV of -96,209, FV of 100,000, ytm of 10%, and 9,000 dolar coupon payments, N will be computed as 5…however on my BA2+ its always returning as 3.3953 with the asterisk. do I have a TVM setting messed up somewhere?

I used the same inputs you listed and P/Y=C/Y=1 and END. I get N=5.000360314.

I’m having the same issue. Help!!!

Nevermind. I FOUND A SOLUTION! I used the reset button on the back of the calculator and it fixed it. Nevermind.

Please note that 10 YEARS LATER (February 2024) someone is still googling this issue (me) I am sure others will come later.

Do not delete this thread lol.
