I’ve taken a summer internship in AM with a BB (Goldman or JP - I won’t say which but they are all about the same for the purposes of my question). I understand they will do a background check. How invasive will this be? What will it entail?
I don’t have any arrest records or outstanding warrants (unlike some of you). Will they want all my tax info for the past gazillion years? I have lived in a whole bunch of weird countries and worked in weird jobs since I graduated from college so coming up with such records might be tough.
I’ve gone about scrubbing the internet of anything related to me which might be unsavory. I figure this will be a fairly cursory background check, but just wanted to be sure.
They farm this out to a third party company. I would expect a BB to be very thorough. They typically do a criminal background check for police records, they can do a credit check, they can check your education, GPA etc, and verify your former employers. It really just depends on the firm. But if you’ve lived in foreign countries, they may not necessarily be able to contact former employers so you could potentially get off easy. (They may ask for pay stubs/W2 etc).
Both companies usually go back 20 years. They check counties that you have lived, all your driving violations (I heard stores that you can get dinged for speeding). They definitely review all your taxes and make sure you did correct deductions as well.
Good luck, clearing background check is the most difficult part in interview process!
