So I have an interview for an IB associate position with a BB bank within the next few days. This isn’t on campus recruiting and more of a targeted hire, as I’m currently working in a kinda related role. I’ve never done an IB interview or worked in IB, so I’m not really sure what to expect and don’t really want to venture into the world that is WSO to find out. It’s only supposed to be 60-90 minutes according to my recruiter.
Anybody have experience with this? We looking at mostly technical modelling questions, or more about the industry its covering? More about fit?
From the individuals I’ve spoken with you will probably get quite a few technical questions. I’ve heard of BB asking you to model out an LBO and explain it to them. You should definitely prepare for the technical piece, but it depends on your background as well. If you haven’t done IB before, they could also ask you questions related to pitches and driving business, but I’m willing to bet you’ll get quite a bit of technical questions. I’m sure lifestyle will be big as well. They want to know if you can handle 90 hr weeks.
^ without going into too much identifying detail, I’ve spent 2-4 years in this industry in a couple of financial/research related roles. Have a non-MBA masters degree.
Apparently it isn’t “true IB” but more on the finance side of the asset acquisition and divestment team and the assets we’ll be A&Ding are the kinds of assets I’ve covered in my research role.
I don’t *really* want to leave my current job, but figured since this opportunity fell into my lap, I might as well put a few hours into it and see what happens.
