I know that having another offer is the best leverage you can have, but what are other ways to deal with being looked over?
how valuable do you think they see you as? are you difficult to replace? If so, the hint or whiff of you exploring options should have them worried.
and have you asked for guidance on moving forward? what did they say?
Get better at what you do.
^ My current job performance is not bad at all. But that’s only because even a monkey can do the job I’m doing.
@Itera: I do all the tasks I’m given no problem but in terms of value and difficulty to replace, I would say not at all and easy to replace.
A couple months ago, I posted asking for advice about moving from a grade 3 salary position to a grade 5, which turns out is impossible. I talked to both my manager and director about it (and tbh, I was probably a little too transparent) and they said that a grade 4 position is definitely possible and that IF a position like that would come up, I could get it. Well just two weeks ago, that exact position came up under my manager but someone else made a lateral move and got it instead.
I guess I’m just frustrated because I feel like I’m stuck in a rut. I’m already 24 and my job requires absolutely no thinking and I feel demotivated.
I am very eager to move on/move up and do something else.
Nothing else to do other than polish up your CV and get applying for better jobs!
Was not implying bad job performance.
Was saying get really d**n good at something, find your niche, your specialty. Without that differentiating factor a person is look-over-able.
Not a good bargaining position.
I’d start looking around for a job that monkeys cannot do.
Not even really, really smart monkeys.
Exactly, but for that a person needs to develop specific skills, get good at something which makes them employable in a job that the other monkeys cannot do.
lol
Bit of an exaggeration but you get my drift, right?
Bit of an exaggeration but you get my drift, right?
I do.
And you get mine, right?
