I am looking for a path to get into an algorithmic trading career. I have some experience with equity and option trading and have wanted to automate strategies on a larger scale for an institution. Right now I have taken some python Udemy courses which scratch the surface on data analysis, quantopian, etc.; but I would be silly to think this is enough to translate into an automated trading role.
From my understanding - it does not seem that python proficiency (especially self taught) will really help me break into this field. I have been considering going the PhD route, maybe in financial engineering - but I have also heard this is not a guaranteed in.
Anyone with experience in this area, what is the recommended path to get where I want to be?
Thanks
