Business cards with CFA logo

I’m sure some of you guys have already printed those ‘beauties’ (and wait for the moment of glory to start using them), some (who are charterholders) use them regularly, and some other maybe think about ordering their own business cards with the CFA letters. So my question is: do you have / are you going to have also the CFA logo on the cards? Do you know any interesting, nice & professionally looking designs for such cards?

NO ONE in the industry puts the CFA logo on their cards - and if you do, you will be deemed a DB

“Dingbat”? Sorry, I’m non-English speaking person so I’m not very familiar with slang or other acronyms…

Could you please explain why is it so? I thought there was nothing improper in putting the logo on business cards when even CFAI allows it and discusses such cases in cases on Ethics… :frowning:

DB = dousche bag

You’re certainly allowed to put the logo on your card, per the CFAI stipulations, but I’ve never seen someone do it. Just putting “, CFA” after your name (in the same font/color/size as your name) is probably the more subtle and respectable way to go. Having the logo on there kind of gives the impression that you’re trying too hard.

Putting the logo on the business card is like putting "cleared all 3 levels at first attempt "in bold and highlighted on your resume

I think no one is allowed to put the logo on the personal business card unless the one is an employee at CFAI. It is crystal clear.

Now I see… Thank you guys for explaining this to me - I would have made an idiot of me…

ua_bender, I didn’t mean the logo of the Institute, of course. What I asked about was this one http://www.cfainstitute.org/Logos/cfalogo_registered.jpg

I see. However, this is also not allowed to use - you can still remember practice problems relating to Standard 7 of the Ethics & Standards Book - nothing is allowed to over emphasize your status including the CFA designation.

It’s probably just business etiquette. I’ve never seen anyone using any logo except for the company logo; but it could be different in Poland.

For example, some friends from Poland used to put a profile picture on their resumes until they were told not to do so by the career advisors. Pictures on resumes are fairly are common in Latin America…as it is to measure the boobs of the girls who are going to promote a new line of products…true story….I saw that happening today in a company I am consulting for!!! smiley

L3Bol, thanks… good to know about such etiquette! You are 100% right - it is really very very common here to put one’s photo on their resume… On the other hand (at least in my corp) HR removes from applications all that could suggest gender, age etc. (so profile pictures too) before passing such CVs to recruiting departments.

The boobs story is in fact quite sad… Does this also happen in investment business (I mean analysis or management rather than sales…)? Does this happen in the U.S. too?

As to my business card question, perhaps I didn’t make myself clear - I did NOT mean my company’s card (certainly I wouldn’t be ever allowed to change its design by adding some graphics!), but cards I would like to print for myself, just to distribute among family, friends, or newly met people (but not in professional ‘circumstances’, during business meetings or so…).

Edit: ua_bender, I’m sorry, but I think you are wrong about prohibition of using the logo. Please, take a look here http://www.cfainstitute.org/about/governance/policies/Pages/charterholder_use_of_cfa_marks.aspx

When they say: “The Certification Mark is used by charterholders as a distinctive visual symbol of the CFA designation that can be easily recognized by employers, colleagues, and clients. In essence, use this mark as a seal of quality and integrity, in close proximity to your name.”, I don’t expect they mean it’s bad to use it, do they?

About the logo:

I wouldn´t use CFAI logo anyway. It will give the impression that you work for the CFAI. I am also thinking of doing some personal/business cards as well, as I am consulting independently. I intend to either design my own logo (completly unrelated to the CFAI) or just leave them plain and simple.

About the boobs:

The girls being measured are models. They are suppose to look pretty next to a new line of bikes. My guess is that on their resumes the most “relevante experience” are their measures, and the marketing department wants to be sure they have the right size of boobs, you know…that size that can sell bikes (DD)…hehehe…and of course this doesnt happen un the US, but in Latin America…

I’m affraid, you are right with one exeption - you call the Certification Mark as the logo, which is not the same thing. And letters “CFA” are called as CFA Marks. Thus, we met a discommunication in the discussion.

Look it’s no secret. Good looking people (men included), get a natural advantage in life. You can argue all you want about ‘oh it’s not fair, and everyone should be equal, and only skill matters’. But once you step foot into that interview room, it will matter.

Especially in sales or client facing roles. How can you put a ugly woman that looks like a short angry man in front of important clients? sex sells. men will be men. put a hot chesty girl, and it boosts office morale even.

Life is not fair, and never will be. Just accept it.

iteracom, every coin has 2 sides. On the one there’s your point - it’s good to be attractive. I agree it sometimes (ok, definitely more often than ‘sometimes’…, helps achieve your goals (like getting job or contract, selling product etc.). On the other though, imagine you’re a very very hot girl/woman. You never know whether a guy you’ve just met and who seems nice and interesting is in fact so, or maybe rather you are nothing but game to him. Not to mention that anywhere you go you are immediately surrounded by hordes of males with some pretty clear intentions… While I can believe there are women who enjoy that, I will argue they are in minority :frowning:

So the question is - does being very physically attractive make one truly HAPPY?
