“TORONTO—Sticky-fingered thieves made off with almost 30 million Canadian dollars (US$30.4 million) worth of maple syrup from a strategic reserve in rural Quebec”
“Late last week, the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers found empty barrels that had contained a total of 10 million pounds of maple syrup during a routine inventory check.”
The most impressive part is they left the barrels so presumably people wouldn’t notice for awhile. Which means individually picking them up and emptying 10MM pounds of syrup into something. If I were a detective I’d just put out a search for on extremely ripped dude.
Maybe it’s one giant insurance scam. The article said the syrup was insured. Maybe the syrup was contaminated and they knew they couldn’t sell it anymore and decided to stage a massive heist to collect on the insurance
Some years ago a big consignment of Viagra was stolen from Heathrow cargo area and the Scotland Yard was frantically searching for some hardened criminals.
