TO: CFA Institute members in Egypt CFA Egypt members Level 3 CFA Program candidates in Egypt Dear Members and Candidates, Special Meeting with CFA Institute and CFA Egypt Four Seasons Hotel, Nile Plaza, Cairo – Tuesday 23 February 6.00pm In 2006, CFA Egypt was approved as a CFA Institute member society . CFA Egypt was established on the basis that it would experience healthy and sustained membership growth and that it would serve as an important resource for the local investment community - and CFA charterholders and candidates in particular - through providing a range of educational services and networking opportunities, and by promoting the CFA Program and the mission it shares with CFA Institute. In 2008, it became evident to CFA Institute that the society was struggling to meet the required growth targets and it was placed under Managed Status, with the expectation that society leaders would work closely with CFA Institute to meet membership requirements within an agreed timeframe. However, CFA Institute has become increasingly concerned that there are a number of obstacles which are rendering the society unable to provide the range of services expected by the membership. As a result, the challenge of recruiting new members and bringing the society out of managed status is proving difficult to meet. For this reason, measures are being initiated in an attempt to ensure that CFA Egypt lives up to the spirit of its affiliation with CFA Institute and reaches the 100 member threshold required. CFA Institute has a sincere desire for a vibrant and active Member Society in Egypt – providing a strong interest for such a society exists on the part of investment professionals in the country. If clear evidence of that interest – and a willingness on the part of investment professionals to become involved with the society – is not readily apparent, then CFA Institute will be obliged to review the society’s status as a Member Society and is likely to initiate action to terminate the society’s affiliation with CFA Institute. Later this month, you will have an excellent opportunity to voice your opinions about the future of CFA Egypt, to learn more about CFA Institute, and to informally network with other investment professionals in and around Cairo. On 23 February, CFA Institute will host a reception and meeting for all interested members and CFA candidates at the Four Seasons Hotel, Nile Plaza. You will have an opportunity to engage in dialogue with CFA Institute representatives on the need for a Member Society in your country, and to ask questions about CFA Institute and the CFA Program . There is no fee - the event is free of charge. Joining me in Cairo will be Nitin Mehta, Managing Director, CFA Institute EMEA, and Attila Koksal, CFA, the Presidents Council Representative for EMEA East. A registration form to indicate your attendance at this meeting is attached to this message. Your response no later than 18 February is appreciated. Even if you are unable to attend the meeting on the 23rd, you are encouraged to email me directly with your thoughts on the current value of CFA Egypt and the future role for a society in Egypt. Thank you for your consideration of this invitation, and I hope to have the opportunity to meet many of you in Cairo on 23 February. Kind regards, Emily Dunbar ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What do you think of that !!!
