I have seen a couple of these threads posted, but I haven’t found enough information to be content to apply to write the CFA level 1. My background is a 3 year financial diploma/associate degree, and 1.5 years in the retail banking sector (presently employed). I have maybe 2 years of full time employment status from 2007-2009 in a retail environment as well. I am aware the CFA lists a combination of academic and full time work expierence to write. I was wondering if anyone in a similar situation applied? As well as would not having a bachelors affect my level 2? I emailed them, but receieved a general reply indicating they cannot review each potential applications profile, which is completely fair. At the same time I don’t want to pay for something I would be ineligible for.
I believe there is no if’s or but’s. The institute website stated
A combination of professional work experience and education that totals at least four years (part-time positions do not qualify, and the four-year total must be accrued prior to enrollment).
According to your post, if you have 3 years of education and 2 years of retail work experience, you should be fine. The question to verify though, is the definition of professional work. You may not have problem with registering for the level 1 exam but going forward, if you are not currently working or have no intention of working in a professional field, I cannot see too much reason to register for the program right now.
