Hello everyone, I am a final year engineering graduate student. I have started preparation for CFA l1 december exam. Due to financial crunches, I am not taking any online, classroom teaching and so preparing on my own. Please suggest me some deadlines (date) to complete my preparation for good confidence toward exam. As I dont have any finance/commerce background, which topics I should give more time ? Thanking in advance
There are many Videos on You tube especially for L1 from KAPLAN, ELAN and especially crash courses for each topic from Finshiksha.
You’ll definitely need to spend time on FRA (accounting): there’s a lot of memorization; many parts of it don’t lend themselves to logical development from a few simple, basic principles.
You shouldn’t have much trouble with Quant, and Equity, Fixed Income, and Derivatives are little more than applies mathematics; they should be fairly easy once you understand the basics.
You may struggle with Econ, but everyone struggles with Econ.
Godspeed.
Ethics and FRA are what it’s all about in my opinion. Those 2 sections make up 84 of the 240 questions on the exam. Not that the other stuff isn’t important, but these 2 topics make up 35% of the exam and are also the most difficult.
As for studying, I think as long as your completely finished reading/reviewing and ready to start mock exams 30 days prior to the exam you should be good in terms of time.
use scheweser. read everything twice. Do the CFAI end of chapter questions, schweser practice questions ,schweser and CFAI mocks.
given your background FRA will require more effort because
a ) it is a difficult topic
b) it is a heavyweight at levels 1 and 2.
c) some parts are not intuitive. require rote memorisation .IFRS vs GAAP.
taxes at level 1 were a pain. SS9?
you have plenty of time. Dec is faaar away. Start in june.
Actually I have started and finished with microEco. But it took me a month long. Thats why I m in dilemma whether my pace is good or not ?
You are studying with ??? CFA books?
Never too early to start!
i’m doing the ACA and have a masters in Economics so i’m familiar with about 70% of the syllabus and even I’ve begun studying for the December sitting.
Yeah. and some other books.
get schweser books on ebay, like $40. even cheaper for 2013 books
Hello Pranjal
me too, i have just started from this week, prepare for the December Level 1 test this year.
I have no much time due to my work, and I am free only on weekend, and I aim 45 hrs per month from now to November, meaning I have 400~450 hrs to study and review …
I don’t know with this study pattern, can I remember the contents which I read one week before or not …
