CFA Level 1: Suggestions for good Intro to Accounting Text for a non-Accounting major?

I am looking to get a solid foundation in basic accounting as needed for CFA Level 1. This is for a non-accounting major.

Anyone have some suggestions? Textbooks or other resources?

Coursera has some good courses from Wharton .

Thanks for the suggestions! Looks good.

Out of curiousity, why do you think the CFA material wouldn’t be sufficient? I come from a non accounting background and found it covered everything necessary.

What “CFA Material” are you referencing?

The books provided by the cfai.

I agree… i think the CFA curriculum already includes plenty accounting material. And when you get to level 2, the accounting section is taken straight from advanced financial accounting (ie. consolidation).

If accounting is challenging for you, I would rather you spend the money on reading additional study guide materials or google those specific areas for examples than getting other accounting textbooks as they likely include materials that are not part of CFA.

I appreciate the replies. Ok, pardon the uniformed questions. Still deciding if I will take the Dec. 2017 test. Need to pull the trigger soon.

I see you are all referring to the CFA Level 1 books provided by the CFA. I’ll admit I have NOT seen those yet. I only looked at the free PDF which the CFA provides on their website which is a very SUMMARY view of the material.

Can I ask how much the Level 1 books from the CFA go for? I saw them on Amazon for $215 U.S. dollars (brand new). Does the CFA offer them for less, if you join?

150 plus s+h from the cfai, maybe 50 for a year old copy on craigslist

* You may purchase a print version of the curriculum (available for a non-refundable fee of US$150, plus any fees associated with shipping)** at the same time you register for an exam, or later.
