CFA/MBA/FRM+ ACCA??

http://www.analystforum.com/forums/water-cooler/91320071

i understood the crux of it…but how/why this information is relevant here??

You need to hang out at the Water Cooler to appreciate these oddballs!!

in my experience, accounting designations would only truly be useful if you were a banking or financials equity analyst. it won’t help much for most other jobs but it wouldn’t hurt. i don’t think anyone would look down on your for getting the ACCA.

I’m a CPA, and it’s done me a lot of good. Probably more than the CFA ever will.

In America, the CPA is very widely known and respected. People like to see the initials ā€œCPAā€ after a person’s name. ā€œCFAā€ is not as well known, and most people don’t know how difficult the exam is. (I, for one, thought, ā€œIt can’t be harder than the CPA exam.ā€ How wrong I was.)

So I agree that having the ACCA (if it really is indeed like the CPA) can never hurt you. How much it will help depends on the type of job you want to get.

brother i really hv no time for it sorry!!!but will do it vhn i m free…i would appreciate any advice from you on how to make a successful career!!!instead of ā€œhanging out at water cooler etcā€¦ā€

Bro i know but i think it can never harm since education never goes waste…and i m also looking to migrate so acca might help me in that ,as it is universally accepted in over 170 countries world wide…

brother u r exactly correct…and even i 1st thought of CPA instead of ACCA since CPA is less time consuming ,questions are mcq types in CPA …CPA can be done in 6 months to 18 months as i have heard…but problem for me was CPA exams are not conducted in india so it would have been costly for me to go to usa and give those exams. On the other hand acca exams are conducted in india and 170 other countries although its quite tougher i think compared to cpa since acca has 14 papers to clear!!!but i appreciate ur thoughts…here is d acca website for u if u need to see it ur self http://www.accaglobal.com/

I used to work for an accounting firm and I still had no clue what ACCA meant until I googled it. There’s a difference between ā€œuniversally acceptedā€ from a technical standpoint, and people actually knowing what you’re talking about without having to search the internet.

As far as all these credentials, my first thought would be that’s impressive, but the 2nd thought would be what on earth did this guy want to do for a job? I mean, you’re looking to combine a general masters business degree with a more specialized finance cert, a super specialized cert for risk management people, and an accounting cert that might not mean anything if they don’t know what it means (see above).

All this is before you realize that actual work experience will mean more then all 3 of your additional credentials combined. My suggestion: get a job somewhat related to finance and slow the F down on the credentials. Being 26 with an alphabet soup behind your name isn’t going to mean much without decent work experience.

bro ur correct but as i have already mentioned that i am in final year of my masters so i cannot do job right now and want to clear atleast cfa l2 by then, and frm i have cleared in 1st yr of my mba along with four papers of acca…at the moment my aim is to complete my masters with atleast cfa l2 and 8 cleared papers of acca…i will be 24 by then…i will take the job …work for 2 years…complete my cfa/acca remaining exams and then would try to move to a developed country!!! bro why will a foreign employer take me if i donot offer him some thing unique and more than others???yes u r correct acca is not as known may b…but i hv no option cpa exams are not conducted in india and acca is only option left…

If you start going to employers saying, ā€œI have an accounting cert, finance cert, an IT cert, a financial planning cert, A b-val cert, an internal audit cert, an m&a cert, an HR cert, and a tax cert!ā€ They will ask, what does this guy actually do?

Get a job that you like. Then get the right initials for that job.

Do not get initials for a job that you have never had and don’t know if you want.

bro again ur correct…but as i have mentioned that i will b in a b school for more 1 to 1.5 yrs …so what’s wrong to complete some global certifications by then???i m not a nerd to not know importance of real job experience and that i will do but first let me complete my school!!!

Ok bro. This thread seems like you just want us to tell you to get the accounting certification. You want to get it, then get it. But here’s some harsh truth for you and every other person trying to get into this industry. I used to think like you until I got my first and second jobs. You can get all the certificates you want, but if the employer doesn’t think it will benefit them in the job they’re hiring you for, they aren’t really going to care that you have it.

So if you want to get your accounting certificate, then get it. My guess as to whether or not it will help you in 1.5 years is about as good as my guess as what the S&P will close at on June 19th. For the record, I’m not very good at predicting stuff like that.

thanks bro…i appreciate your advice

brother its not about a certificate a CPA/ACCA +CFA/FRM >CPA/CFA/FRM …IF BOTH OF THEM ARE FRESHERS MY ORIGINAL QUESTION REVOLVED AROUND 3 POINTS ALTHOUGH WE GOT OUT OF TRACK IN BETWEEN

MY ISSUES WERE:

1)I WANT TO WORK IN EQUITY/DERIVATIVE MARKET AS A ANALYST THAT IS WHY I AM DOING CFA,FRM I DID AS IT WAS A SMALL INVESTEMNT OF 3 MONTHS.

2)I WANTED TO ASK DOES A GLOBAL ACCOUNTING CERTIFICATION LIKE CPA/ACCA WITH CFA/FRM MAKE A GOOD COMBINATION???PROVIEDED SOME ONE IS INTERESTED TO LEARN

3)WILL THIS CREDENTIALS HELP ME TO MIGRATE IN FUTURE??

IN SUMMURY THIS IS WHAT I ASKED AND TILL NOW I HAVE GOT MIXED RESPONSE:

MY CONCLUSION:FROM THIS THREAD

1)PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE IS IMPORTANT SO I WILL START WORKING AS SOON AS MY COLLEGE IS OVER.

2)I WILL COMPLETE CFA L2 BY THEN ALONG WITH FRM AS CFA IS A MUST FOR INVESTMENT /RESEARCH RELATED ROLES.

  1. As of May 2012, ACCA was one of the largest and fastest-growing global accountancy bodies with 154,000 members and 432,000 students in 170 countries …BUT STILL HAS LESS RECALL VALUE FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASONS.

4)ONLY IF I GET TIME FROM MY MBA AND CFA I WOULD CLEAR MY REMAINING PAPERS OF ACCA.

5)SADLY NO ONE HAS ADVICED ME ON MIGRATION ISSUES.

USING ALL CAPS AND EXCESSIVE PUNCTUATIONS ARE MORE THAN A LITTLE ANNOYING

I wrote the below in a different thread but it seems relevant here.

I was helping the top-tier MBA guy with some research for a report he needed to write for an FI analyst position. I was surprised he was having such a difficult time with his job hunt, especially with his MBA and experience in PE/IB. I always imagined an MBA like that would magically open doors.

I didn’t want to bring up my background again (the regulars are probably sick of seeing it), but I think it makes a point here.

spunboy-> no MBA, no CFA, no name undergrad, unimpressive grades. 3/12 hit ratio within the last 6-9 months. One of three final candidates with two of the applications. One of them was my dream job - surprised I even got a call. Plus, I’ve been contacted by a couple of recruiters (east coast jobs – I had no interest, I’m trying to go west). The only thing I have going for me - 5 years of experience as a buy side analyst.

I guess I can’t really speak to this since I have no 3 letter combinations behind my name.

If top-tier MBA dude in Cali is having trouble finding a job, I doubt it - at least for the U.S. In Singapore, people look down on other races other than Caucasians. My best friend lives there now, and people just assume he’s superior since he’s white. Very odd.

1st of all thanks for honest feedback

1)yes experience is the key i acknowledge your point, too sad being in college i cannot have experience.

2)usa/canada etc u r sayin job market is slim,i agree…i have been to singapore for 1 month in a exchange programe and never found any discrimination, many of my seniors work there, they say white people are assumed superior every vhr but if u work hard its not a problem.

3)i have been for a exchange programe at university of virginia darden bussiness school again for 1 month found lots of asians in newyork/new jearsy and most of them successful and well integrated into american society.

4)brother knowledge and application is the key …no mba finance program in the world will teach you more finance then a cfa+frm this even i know very well.

5)if u run behind money entire life will be too small to earn enough to satisfy your greed,i think your top 15 mba friend @ spunboy who is struggling to find jobs must be looking for something thats not availabe in his job market or his salary expectations may be too high.

6)brother i love education i m trying to get all these credentials not to earn but to learn,i would love to meet educated people from developed world to learn from them their work ethics, professionalism etc and how can i improve my self.

7)i will do cfa/frm/acca along with mba for knowledge atleast!!!and will work too simultaneously.

8)i will try to remain honest and hard working and rest depends on god.

If you are really serious about securities/accounting work in an English speaking country, best spend a bit more time on your English skills.

There is no issue getting designations until you figure out exactly what you want to do.

As for the 1-2 naysayers in this thread, ignore them. A recession hits and they think the world is ending. Those types lived in the 30s, 70s, and 80s as well.

thanks i will surely work at my communication skills…

And network like a madman.
