CFA/MBA/FRM+ ACCA??

Qqqbee? is that you??

thanks

brother what are you trying to say??

Qqqbee 2.0

You’re basing an opinion on Singapore from living there 1 month? My friend has been for over three years.

He’s been looking all over the US, and I have a feeling he’s not chasing money applying for entry level analyst jobs.

It worked for me.

BTW, I think working on your English might be more helpful than going for another designation.

I’m also nonwhite and English is my second language.

yes bro thanks for your advice,i will surely try to improve my communication skills…but i think it would take hardly two months!!!so it is not my main concern right now!!!

and one more doubt …are you all thinking my english is not good because i am using ā€œvhnā€ instead of ā€œwhenā€ and ā€œuā€ instead of ā€œyouā€ in conversations or is there a fatal grammatical error in my sentences???

I usually stick to reading and very rarely post in the forum because I realize that being a CFA Level 1 candidate, there is not much I can contribute when the likes of Greenman are present. Moreover, anything that I ask has been asked and answered. Thus, my task was limited to searching like a Ninja in the Analyst forum. But yesterday, I came across you - Rahul Roy ā€œBro,ā€ and it quite amazed me to read every post of yours. It was actually entertaining to a certain point and then today it started becoming irritating.

Now, lets get down to bare analyzing and I promise to keep the bashing to a minimum:

  1. Your Certifications - There are hundreds of thousands of ā€œinternationalā€ certifications in the world, and I am sure in India you can find an idiotic ā€œacademicianā€ each one who earns $3-4million like you mentioned in one of the previous threads. You know why? Because in India education is such a huge business and ignorance is embraced so dearly that any tom, dick & harry can exploit people like you who think having certifications will make them superior and give them the cutting edge. How do I know? I am an Indian. Certifications are useless beyond a certain point. Two MBA’s, a CFA, FRM, XYZ ABC PQR etc etc are just here to satisfy your fetish!
  2. Migration - NO. The visa consulate does not look at you differently because you have a file full of meaningless, connectionless certifications. Why do you want to migrate to begin with? While people like myself are looking forward to coming back home, why do you think that you will be any better in a different nation? I’m not comparing US to India, but what I am pointing out is, if you are as good as you think you are, you can always make it in India. Hell, there are actually more business opportunities (and hence hidden fortunes) in an emerging market like India than there are in the US or any other developed nation. You know why? Because emerging markets are discovering their way ahead and hence are more forgiving of your mistakes and more encouraging of your risks while developed nations do not like the status quo to be disturbed. Anyway, that aside - NO. It will not help you migrate. What helped me migrate was admission into a decent university like millions others. Heck, lemme tout my own horn here - I’ve recently graduated through NYU stern which is not an Ivy league, but still is one of the most selective colleges to get admitted into. In fact, I am one of the 5 Asian honors students of our year… Still, that did make all the companies line up in front of my door offering me a H1b to join them. Real world does not work like that. In the real world, you match your skills with an organizations demand and then the org does not care a hoot about where you come from. (Unless you are an undergraduate student at which time, since you have zero work exp, your brand value matters a lot. Now, given all that, why did I go to Stern and not some other cheap community college? Thats a different thread if you want to hear cheeky)
  3. CFA is not a ā€œmustā€ for research roles. It gives you an edge. But what is must are - Series 7, 63, 86 and 87 - which are required by the govt of US in order for you to be able to give research ā€œadviseā€ to your clients. Now, I’m not sure of what you need to do in the India.
  4. Numbers - You seem to be possessed with a typical Indian fetish with numbers. Who cares if a certification is the fastest growing in the planet or the universe? Certifications are meant to display that the knowledge you possess in a particular field meets a certain criteria that was set by someone and is proven time and again to filter out the fakes. Thats the whole point of a certification. CFA is not, let me repeat the CFA is NOT a certificate. Its a designation (take out the dictionary and see the difference here). The 3 exams compliment your work experience and I believe it was not designed to be the other way around. Don’t think that along with your L3 results, you would be getting a golden key, a visa stamp and shit ton of cash. (BTW, hope we can say shit here, else I am in deep shit and apologize for saying shit in a forum that frowns upon shit wink)
  5. You - finally, my favorite topic - YOU. You sir, seem to be stuck in some kind of (proverbial) well and seem to think thats the whole world. You seem to be dreaming of an utopia where you will be worshipped for having an alphabet soup after your name. Unfortunately, after you are in the workforce for 10 years, all that becomes irrelevant. Hell, I’m out of school for a year and already I feel my work speaks louder than my degree does! You are a kid who is still in school with no work-exp. I appreciate the fact that you are planning for your future, but don’t forget to have fun. Life as a student is the most awesomest life you can ever ask for and miss it, you’re gonna regret your entire life. Balance between your fun, school & these exams but don’t try going after the whole set of examinations. If you claim you are really passionate about finance, get a PhD in computational finance or something similar. Once you finish your PhD from a reputed university, I am sure you will be minting money. But during the course of that PhD, your life is pretty much shit. Above all, be a human being. Recognize that its not bricks and walls that make a man, rather its the man who makes the bricks and walls. People like Gates, Jobs & Buffett are not what they are because of their universities & certifications. They are what they are because of themselves. 2 MBA’s, 3 MS degrees, 3 certifications would take you a minimum of 25 years (by the most conservative estimate). Even if you are 23 now you will be 48 when you realize that you achieved nothing so far! So go out and have fun.
  6. CFA - what you’ve read so far is the CFA Level 1 topics and you think you’ve got the econ, quant etc under your belt. Go for it yo! But seriously, get some used L2 & L3 books. There is a reason why its a tough exam to crack. I heard L1 can be cracked by anyone with basic financial knowledge and enough perseverance.

Finally, two points more and I will wrap up - your grammar is not terrible, but its not great either. As a matter of fact, neither is mine. We who study English as a second language need to brush it up constantly. And then try not to be a snob please. People here are helping you. You are not paying them for their time. I’m sure that they all have full-time jobs and many have other commitments. But they are taking their time off from all that to answer your questions however stupid they might be. So, be thankful for that. If not, at least don’t be a snob. What is being a snob you ask? Well, go back to read your response. If you feel that you’ve been a snob good, you can be cured. If not, God Help You ā€œBro.ā€

good post EO.

my only word of advice to the orginal poster: ā€œFOCUSā€

@Rahul Roy: Look around. With these qualifications, you’ll land yourself in a fin role 100% IN INDIA.

@Krazykanuck: ā€œalphabet soupā€! LMAO!
