If studying from exam perspective, should optional segments in the CFAI curriculum be done or it is safe to leave them? If leaving them, would in any way they indirectly test the understanding of these segments in the exam?
you passed level 2 and you don’t know this?
was only using Schweser, which don’t have optional segments. That’s why don’t know this.
for exam purposes, forget the optional parts unless u r interested in it
Optional parts usually consist of breaking down the section for further understanding. Often times the optional subject matter is material covered and tested in a previous level (i.e. Level 1 or Level 2) but not specifically tested at the new level. For instance, there was a lot of optional reading in the swaps section of Level 2. The optional stuff was the basic swap understanding level tested at Level 1. Since you passed Level 1, they assume you already know the basic level of understanding.
Because I considered that the whole CFA Program as essentially an optional program in life, I would never volunteer for optional readings.
The CFA curriculum states that optional segment is not tested on the exam. You can find this information in the first few pages where the books explain their layout.
