I went to one before at a different society than the one I’m at now, couple years back. It was over lunch (not a very large society). Each new charter holder got their name called, went up to get a smaller version of the charter, and had to tell a funny story about test day (no one told any legendary AF stories).
I’d definitely go… i love hearing applause after my name is called.
Was interesting for me here in Zurich last Thursday.
The Chairman of the board of governors was there and mentioned a few interesting things:
according to their numbers, 25pct of L1 candidates eventually make it all the way
average study time for all 3 levels is 1000hrs
they try to change about 3% of the content every year to keep up with new developments.
2/3 of the candidates are either Indian or Chinese.
Got a CFA pin, a paper charter in A4 format and a decent meal for 50 bucks. Not a bad deal at all.
Funny how many guys read the business dress code to exclude a tie We were about 70 people in ZRH. About 10pct were women, probably 2/3 were foreigners. The oldest guy looked to be around 45. Rest was bluddy young (excluding me). nice event but rubbish from a networking persoective imo.
Mine was last Thursday too, however I contracted the Norovirus on the Wednesday so spent the night of the ceremony tied to my bathroom at home, projectile vomiting out of both ends…extremely unpleasant.
Perhaps less unpleasant than networking with a bunch of 20 somethings though!
I went to the Boston one last year with supyogov. Free beer and wine…free food (things like sliders, chicken sandwichs, rosemary fries, etc). Was at the Four seasons. Everyone got their name called and pictures were taken. I took my then gf…did stuff after
