Chinese Astrology...

SO I have a Chinese friend who studies astrology/ fengshui things and he told me all about it, and i have to say, his (previous) forecasts were very accurate!

Although rationally speaking, a lot of it is psychological, but having that reassurence is sometimes all you need. I don’t know if anyone here studies something like or other type of fortune telling. But now i am quite interested in learning more, just for fun!

ps* Just before people write this off as a silly idea, many wealthy people do hire fengshui masters, and they wouldn’t be doing that if it doesn’t work, would they?

^ If it is so accurate, how come us as CFAs don’t use it!??

Expert troll bait.

More to the point, I do think there is truth in astrology. I wouldn’t live in the day by day horoscopes, but if you read about your sign it’s usually close to the truth. I read others and I don’t think I’m that similar to them. Again, the real sign stuff not the daily horoscope fortune cookies.

1st Blood

FYI, I have been to china and heard the stories about this. It sounds like pseudo counseling the way it was described to me. But once again, if the Astrology is so true and accurate, I’d like to know the next winning lottery number, the figure of the Dow at the end of the year, and so forth.

I don’t know, maybe some people do, they just didn’t say.

i paid someone $15 to read my fortune, dat chick was wrong on almost everyting.

Agree with you. I don’t believe in the day to day but in the general description.

Year of the Horse.

Many Asians got buried betting on the denver Broncos to win the Super bowl.

Vegas had the best super bowl profits EVER!!! And made more then the last 3 super bowls combined.

It is kinda like counseling i do agree.

As to fortune telling part, at least Chinese astrology anyway, it’s not about predicting specific future events like lottery numbers, but more about your fate, something that is already in store for you.

It’s like regression in statistics, based on your date of birth, etc, they plot the most plausible forecast for you, and tell you what is most likely going to happen in regards to health, career, love life, etc.

If you aren’t meant to be rich, you can’t come up with Whatsapp and just make loads of money, HOWEVER, along that regression line, there is a “band” on either side, you can do slightly better or worse if you have known a bit more information of what lies ahead.

It’s a huge scam that makes a lot of money.

No science can tell us the exact number to win the mega million lottery. It only gives us general forecasts from that we could avoid unfortunes or leverage opportunities. Its accuracy depends on many elements and they have to combine multiple methods/astrological branches to deliver forecastings.

If you are offered a forecast based on your Chinese horoscope chart, first of all pls make sure that your birth date and time (day time savings is counted!) are accurate . That’s critical and foremost!. A good fortune teller will also take your location, social elements, your parents/brothers/sisters’ chart, the fengsui of your ancestors’ graves, etc into considerations instead of your Chinese horoscope chart only.

P/s: Last year I studied my Chinese horoscope chart and found that 2013 was the good year for me to focus on studying. It’s partly the reason I registered for the CFA exam…lol… cool

Have any of ya’ll googled “fortune telling scam”? Crazy and sad how far they will go… The really convincing ones make serious bank though.

I dug into it after I sold a car to this family (gyspy though, not asian). Our porter and I delivered a car to one of their fortune telling businesses and went to the owner’s house for his signature. The guy lived in a 7 figure house, with about half a million worth of cars (3 cars) in his garages. 2 of them with paper plates, just bought.

^^ HAHA!

perhaps they see fengshui masters as charity or seek solace by throwing money away.

it’s not like there’s a measurable alpha totem pole.

oh the things i’d do if i had cash to burn with fengshui nonsense.

Half the fortunes I get (mostly from cookies though) are not even fortunes. They are more like advice like “be confident in yourself” or something like that.

Reminds me of medieval bleeding techniques to rebalance the bodily humours. The medieval rich sure went for that stuff.

Thank you! you explained it better than i did.

And i just have to clarify one thing, chinese astrology/ zodiac/ horoscope whatever you call it, is NOT a “special power” someone has with a crystal ball. it’s all based on calculations and from the books, they believe in cycles and it’s a type of statistics they collected over centuries.

I read once that modern telescopes have shown that old astrological maps were wrong. So, for instance, sagitary was now just a week instead of a month.
