Clarification On A Couple Ethics Questions

  1. Can you never accept a cash gift? Can you accept small token gifts without disclosing them, or do all gifts have to be disclosed?

  2. Does all outside work represent a conflict of interest? One problem I did said that working in a completely unrelated profession without disclosing to employer was a violation. Do you have to get permission from you employer to work a second job if that job is unrelated? What about a hobby that takes up a good amount of time on weekends?

  3. “Neustadt’s proposal is unacceptable, since it requires the use of assets belonging to Ehrlich’s employer. Additional Compensation Arrangements requires members and candidates to obtain their employer’s consent before accepting additional compensation. Erlich must disclose Neustadt’s proposal in full, even though the employer is not likely to consent.” You have to disclose to your employer an unethical job offer you received, even if the employer is unlikely to approve it?

  1. you can except gifts up to a small amount like $100 or $200 worth. But the main thing is you don’t want to accept anything that could “possibly” cause conflict in your decisions. By “possibly” i would stay away from anything that society would consider rediculous.

Tickets to a baseball game sure ok. Box seats to the superbowl or using someones vacation home… No

  1. Other jobs take away your resources and when money is involved that just gives people more incentive to do that other job. If you are an employer do you really want your employee to be tired or have his mind on other things? Hobbies don’t involve money so people think ok they do it as a pass time.
